Man, Karmann Ghia! Growing up as a kid in the 70s, my Dad was the local VW master. He had a stack of Manx dune buggy bodies in the garage for people who wanted him to build them one. Custom builds and painting too. Also learned to drive in his ‘56 small oval Beetle. The Ghia was the model that I always loved. You also knew you were in a VW home when you would take the front hood laying against the outside garage wall and go sled riding with it! Man, the memories!

That was a good car when it was parked. And the barn was good when it was built. Both seem to have suffered a bit with age.

My brother had an orange hardtop and a green ragtop. One of my fondest memories is cruising around in that ragtop Ghia with my (now passed) sister-in-law. Early 80s, we were young and the good times rolled. Thanks for the memories, Mustie.

If that's an Air Hawk air compressor here's a tip. If the battery goes bad, a Ryobi 18+ battery will work. It's a tight fit and it won't latch in but it will work. My nephew left mine out in the rain, the compressor was fine but the battery was fried. I looked at it and thought, that looks really close to a Ryobi, and it was.

I was working the other day and got talking to the customer and he quickly found I was into cars. Took me out back to the shed to show off his pristine Karmann Ghia (very rare in Australia), along with other rare and valuable cars. My first time seeing one in person.

I took one of these for a test drive in the 70s, what a cool car. Biggest regret of my life not investing then.

I live in the UK and in the early '80s bought a "run and drive" '60s right hand drive red 1200cc version of what you have here. Sadly I sold it a few months after the arrival of our first born but its the only car I regret selling in 50+ years. When I bought it I drove straight to a breakers for a beetle front upright which was the quickest way to get any sort of brakes for the 160m drive home !

Didn't charge the batteries for the power tools you did bring, didn't bring most of the tools you knew you were gonna need, no lube, didn't inflate the spare tires you did bring... Most entertaining vehicle recovery ever.

I always loved the Ghia. I had a room mate in college that had one, it had about the same power to weight ratio as the Boxter. So, it was no dragster, but a hoot to drive. with snows on the back, it would go anywhere in a Michigan winter.

Man what a Score ! 1972 Karman Ghia In my eyes , the cool Little Sister of the Porche 914. 914 has a removable targa top, but the Ghia is sporty AND a Convertble ! With some good old Mustie Love, and that would be a awesome car to drive around top down. Not to mention a True VW Classic.
