This video shows how to replace the 5th gear & synchro hub on a Volkswagen Polo (6R)
The initial issue was hard to get into gear and this eventually became, could not select the gear at all.

Your a legend I’m in the process of fixing/ replacing my 5 gear needle bearing as it collapsed and the 5th gear fork sliders got chewed away!

Great video to come across, thanks. I know this was recorded a long time ago but are you able to describe which way round the collets go. My 5th gear disintegrated so the collets were loose. I can’t quite work out which way round they should go i.e. central dip facing inwards or outwards. Any help appreciated.

From any Volkswagen dealer. Just pop in or call them and they can get them for you.

I'm sorry but I cant, the job was done a very long time ago and I no longer have the vehicle information to look it up. If you contact any Volkswagen dealer, they will be able to supply the parts. Some dealers can be funny about giving out part numbers over the phone though.

Hi there firstly your videos are legendary🙏🏼 I’m having a problem with my gearbox where it does not want to go into 1st gear like at all it’s just a lot of resistance and not even any gear grinding. This is when the car is on and off. I tried removing the selector shaft but it doesn’t want to budge do you perhaps have any info to help me with this

What to do if your gearbox makes a knocking noise when selecting third and fourth gear. Only happens when shifting into those gears and when releasing and pressing the gas pedal. Feels like a shocking motion.

I can select 5th gear. However when I coast in 5th and then accelerate, I hear this rattle or loose noise. What’s the issue? The only thing I can think of is I did assist my bro Inlaw tow his polo with a tow rope after his cvjoint broke. Maybe something got damaged by too much tension. Any ideas what went wrong and how to fix?

Hi, trying to sort my girlfriends 5th out, no grinding but won't select unless you try 2/3 times. Where do you get the parts?? 2002 with I think th 02T box. Thanks

This is 6 speed gear box other 5 speed gearbox, because i have VW Touran 2.0 TDI 6 speed 140 ps and make some noise when i put at 5th gear ⚙️ only at this gear

Is it really mandatory to replace the gasket and bolts?

According to the manual, yes. I personally would as its best practice and the gasket is not that expensive. Real world though, you will probably be fine if you didn't.
