Hi Gary, thank you for the detailed video. I have one question. How do I go about to line up the timing marks before I remove the cambelt. Should I remove all or only 1 spark plug? Should I place the spanner on the cam or crank pulley to rotate the engine in order to line up both the top and bottom marks. Thank you.

Very informative thanks sir. I have a quick question sir. I have the same car but the hatch 1.6 2003 model 9n polo. My spark plugs are getting slightly wet of oil 2nd and 3rd. Whats the best way forward? Do I only do the head cylinder/ valve stem seals and oil rings or should I do the entire Engine overhaul? Thank you.

Most interesting again. At what mileage was the timing belt changed on this car? I see replacing the timing belt on these modern VW's is much more simple than I did on my 24 years old Golf 1.8, where there is an extra toothed pulley on an axle for the iginiton timing which is on the other side of the engine. Your belt is only for valve timing and pretty good acesseable , this makes the whole operation less critical, because you only have two marker points. On my car it is difficult to put the toothed belt back on, and span it, and at the same time keeping the pulleys on the white markers....
