One thing to think about though is that if 2 cars were to collide head on the speeds are added to each other. So hitting this wall at 56 km/h would be the same as 2 cars hitting head on at only 28 km/h each. I'm sure most people go a lot faster than that.

You want the car/hood to fold on itself because it softens the impact as opposed to a full stop. If you look at expensive sports cars today they fold like paper from a minor impact, unlike old cars before regulations or unlike cheap beat-up cars today. But this car definitely took it a little too far.

Also one thing important to know is that the car is hitting a solid object, its damage is equivalent to two similar car of this type both at 95 mph hitting head on, so keep that in mind.

A maioria dos carros eram assim. Basicamente caixas de aço sobre rodas. Foi lá pela metade dos anos 90 que esses testes passaram a ser mais exigidos e as montadoras passaram a buscar melhores índices de segurança. Mas ainda hoje há carros vendidos sem segurança alguma, exemplo o GM Ônix, Gol e Uno, vendidos por muitos anos e que tinham 0 de avaliação no Crash Test. Aí o cara prefere pagar 35k num Ônix nota 0 que num C4 nota 4, pois o último é ruim de revenda e tem manutenção mais elevada. Quanto vale a sua vida?

So how fast was that going, 80 mph they don't concertina like that at normal road speeds, which is what most tests are done at. This must have been exeeding the adverage road speed. I mean c 'mon!!

For those of you in the comments saying this test isn't a good representation of safety because the car is going over "90 mph" and not at normal road speeds. Well what if you put this car into a scenario where you're driving at 50 mph and another car drives into you head on at similar speed. I don't understand what you're trying to defend. 🤣

A head on crash at 50mph is equivalent to crashing into a wall at 50mph. You cannot add up the speeds of two cars if they're travelling in opposite directions, that's just not how it works. When travelling in opposite directions, their speeds work against each other.

The wall passes through the bonnet (~1m) in about 0.04s, so average roughly ~90km/h, which means it should have travelled a bit faster than that to start off. ~100km/h?
