A great scene from the 1934 film "You're Telling Me". I use this clip as an example in my essay on W.C. Fields on my blog: / mikegillettcomedy

Timeless comedy gold. Funny, is funny. No matter how many times you see it.

+Probably the greatest comedian ever. My opinion of course. November, 2022.

Argue over who was the best of the era, but the fine art of expressing simmering exasperation has never been equaled.

Unlike Chaplin who's comic career faded after the silents (his comic pantomime routinues had lost interest with the public by the 1930s), Fields was the opposite. Fields was a,verbal comic who's career got better after the silents.

He did a sketch on a golf tee with two other people and it involved paper but there wasn't a dialog. No talking at all except for paper noise. Tried to find it. Was hilarious. This is good.

Yes! W.C was hilarious and I enjoy watching him and Mae West play off each other. Notice no foul language and he's a crack up.😛

Bill Fields did the greatest "takes" in movie history. A "take" in this context is a reaction of extreme alarm upon viewing something unexpected. This comic device dates back to vaudeville - at least. The favorite subjects of Fields's takes were unattractive women. And then we come to the legendary "double take," which is exactly what its name implies. Sadly there are none in this clip.

Fields was the funniest better than Chaplin or Keaton. The Marx Bros. and The Three Stooges were brilliant but Fields did all his movies by himself and he was hilarious.

Fields certainly was one of a kind. He first became world famous as a clown juggler, and did not speak. Then he reinvented himself as the always talking character in this clip. There was very little he couldn't do as a comedian.

I put this clip, like I do most of my classic comedy, as an example in my All Things Comedy Blog mikegillettcomedy.tumblr.com/ I used this clip as an example of W.C. Fields' snappy patter. I thought this was enough footage to make that point.

I do not know if this is a remake of "Golf Specialist" or the original, but I like the caddy on "Golf Specialist" better than this one. He acted and looked more like the "lame brain" type. He reminded me more of Stan Laurel.
