I truly miss the old steam engines. I grew up and lived 30 years less than 100 yards from tracks, and alway loved that haunting sound.

I grew up near the Toledo Terminal tracks, which Nickel Plate, Pere Marquette and Wabash all had trackage rights on. When I started high school in 1953 they were all still running some steam, when I graduated in 1957 steam was gone. As I recall all three were running Mikado type locos there.

i rode this train twice in the 80's. it stop right in town and we boarded it right at wabash st.

My favorite steam train is the Norfolk and Western 611, she's a beauty with the most wonderful voice!

You know it's fun to see it activate multiple crossings as it comes closer you can see one crossing activating one after the next as 765 enters each circuit of the crossings.
