This was aired on TV Tokyo during the 70s as part of a block called Manga no Kuni 『漫画の国』(Kingdom of Manga), which had several Hanna-Barbera cartoons, that all were dubbed into Japanese with names being changed into ones that appealed more to Japanese audiences , as well as having an opening song produced for it, if it lacked one with Japanese lyrics as well. Most of the shows didn't do well (from what I understand) with the exception of Wacky Races, which became so popular with Japanese audiences that it began to become a part of Japanese pop culture.

@aphronadeshiko Wacky Races was first aired on TV Asahi (Formerly Net TV) in 1970, then was later broadcast on TV Tokyo (Formerly Tokyo 12 Channel) in 1977, and the block program was マンガのくに (Manga's Country). ❤❤❤❤

I find it interesting that this is the most popular and famous Hanna Barbara show in Japan (similar to how Top Cat is the most beloved Hanna Barbara show in Mexico). Also interesting that Japanese game developer Atlus ( the devs behind Persona, Friday the 13 and Shin magame tensei) made a Wacky races video game for NES. There was also a Japanese exclusives Wacky races game released for the 3DO

@pixelcrunch300 The Flintstones and Jetsons were aired in Japan on NET (now TV Asahi), but failed to get the success that Wacky Races and Tom and Jerry have in Japan. The Flintstones, when in it was originally aired in Japan, had it's name changed to 強い妻天国 (Tsuyoi Tsuma Tengoku) "Strong Housewife Heaven", and wouldn't be called by a name similar to the original show 原始家族フリントストーン (Genshi Kazoku Furinsuton) "Primitive Family Flintstone" until years later when the concept of VHS rentals became a thing. The Jetsons however, always had a name that was similar to the original from the start. The series was broadcast on Japanese TV during the 60s as 宇宙家族ジェットソン (Uchuu Kazoku Jettoson) "Space Family Jetson". Despite not being very popular in Japan, the Flintstones characters were used in the 80s in Japan for the company Honobono who was a moving service/travel agency. Original commercials were produced with the Flintstones characters and merchandise that had them on it was also produced. Both series were eventually broadcast on Cartoon Network in Japan.

I mean to be fair Speed Racer came out around the same time so it was probaby popular becuase there was also a very popular racing anime around the same time.
@badideabearcub27474 жыл бұрын
No, they came out in about the same time but they were imported to Japan decades later, together with a lot of western cartoons, like the pink panther, that's why they became popular, because they look different, and thank goodness, they came later otherwise they would have had a bigger influence on Japanese animation and we would not have many of their animated gems.

@@ironmaster6496 Yeah, we call it Patan, it's like a kids insult for lazy. And Dick Dastardly is Pierre Nodoyuna (Pierre as a french name, and Nodoyuna are three words: No-Doy-Una, which would mean No-Sucess-One literally, since he fails in everything. It sounds wierd since spanish phrases order is very different, but for us sounds perfect).

The Scooby Doo one is the weirdest of all, the opening gives off the impression that it's going to be a comedy about a useless cowardly dog and his friends in haunted house with ghosts instead of a mystery with slight comedic themes.

cool fact: Chikao Ōtsuka (the same person that voiced Dick Dastardly in this cartoon) is also famous for voicing characters in every media such as Tao Pai Pai from the original Dragon Ball Anime, Apocalymon from Digimon Adventure, Wario in some commercials, Captain Hook from Walt Disney's Peter Pan, Jinpachi Mishima from the Tekken franchises and he even voiced Charles Bonson and Richard Widmark as an official dubbing artist!

Aside from Muttley's Japanese laugh sounding a tad awkward, this is a pretty awesome opening. Wish the English version had a song too instead of just a character introduction. Granted, it made sense as the show was a take on sports entertainment... sort of... but still.
