I still remember we were kids when we watched this movie. My brother was scared of dark for years, my cousin got fever after watching and even i was scared of dark for sometime because we didn't know about psychology back then, we thought it was ghost horror movie.

I love how a lot of people, including me, take this movie as purely a psychological thriller but others embrace it's paranormal aspects. That's how you know it's a well made movie. Also, extraordinary strength and voice changes have been observed before in people with DID. It's interesting what the human body is capable of when it loses control of the brain. PS: Although the movie respects the spiritual aspect of Guruji's work, they make it very clear that Aditya only requires Guruji to create an "atmosphere" because Avni has convinced herself that she's possessed by Manjulika. Also why she doesn't realise when they switch Siddharth with that dummy. She believes herself to be possessed, not sick, so her mind ignores logical things like the difference between a man and a dummy.

Bro, if you enjoyed VidyaBalan’s performance in this one, I urge you to watch the original in Malayalam, #Manichtrathazhu with #Shobhana in the lead. None of the actresses who played her role (in any of the remakes) could ace her performance. Being a classical dancer, Shobhana’s performance is absolutely delightful to watch. I’m sure the original film lurks around somewhere on youtube.

Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal both are amazing actors but let me tell you that Vidya Balan who played the character of AVNI is one top most actresses in bollywood. She is an actress whose films have done amazingly well without the presence of a Male lead. Please do not miss out on her films. Watch Kahaani and you will know what I am talking about. Other good films of her are Paa, The Dirty Picture and Kahaani 2. Do not miss out on her, her performance in this movie was awesome but she had lesser screen time. Also bhool bhulaiya 2 has mixed reviews ,but I loved the second one as food as the first one, they are not connected but the second one revolves around manjulika. The second movie too has an ensemble cast but one the main characters is played by Tabu whom you have loved so far. Watch it and decide for yoirself if you like it

This movie is a remake of Manichithrathazhu (malayalam) released in 1993. You should watch the original version which is better in many ways. The lead actress Shobana also recieved national award for this role. With realism and logic and simplicity and natural acting Manichithrathazhu was way far ahead. It is a psychological thriller but with natural flow and a semi village atmosphere well captured with its rustic and simple people who have a fear of supernatural. The appearances of each character and the fears, actions were so natural. Each character gels well and has clear role which has significance in the plot and are well connected and explained well in the end. The scenes did not use over effects and unnecessary stunts. Bhool Bhulaiyya it did not have the right character fitment! Shiney Ahuja holds no candle to Suresh Gopi. Paresh Rawal and Manoj Joshi and Vikram Gokhale did well. Asrani is ok but I felt it did not match the role of Ganeshan in Malayalam. But the real reason why we consider manichithrathazhu as a classic and a study material for film making is its Detailing. None of the makers who remade this film understood the true essence of the story and its characters. Hence they missed these detailing and commercialized the psychological story and made it into a horror film for marketing. (Bhool bhulaiyya was the only remake which stood somewhat similar to the original comparing to other remakes ) Ps: i would love to see your reaction to the original version but if you couldnt atleast watch the original version and give a review. Actually there was no ghost in her, but she had an identity disorder. She believed herself being Maunjulika, and so after killing the king she believed she did what she wanted to do and so her identity disorder got over. Do you know people can go off the limits in Identity disorder, they behave and even talk in the language they might not know.
