Who doesn't love waffles? Whether you are enjoying them for breakfast or creating the distinctive squares on your loom, they are delicious!
In episode 110, I'm walking you through the 3 major components needed to create your own waffle weave. I like a weaving draft from Mary E. Black's book, "The Key to Weaving", which you can find on page 392. (I included an image on the October Weave Along Overview page - see below for the link.)
However, there are many variations and all of them will work. So use what you like!
Have you joined the October Weave Along? This month-long weaving adventure includes 2 simple guidelines - we all start and finish a project in the month of October, and we all do the same pattern, which is waffle weave!
Jog over to the overview page to see all the details and how you can participate - actoncreative.net/2022/09/26/...

Got the yarn I ordered and the pattern, YAY :) and then I see that the pattern is using 5 shafts.... I got 4... ooh well I guess I will figure this one out too :D Kinda ok to figure that out after midnight, I just had to look at it... I am now wishing my self and everyone else a glorious day tomorrow after a good night sleep, I sure need it :)

Hi Ann! You can absolutely do this with 4 shafts! That's what I did it on! The pattern shows 5 treadles, but you only need the 4 shafts. Let me know if you need any guidance!

For rigid heddle people waffle weave is entirely possible there are several methods out there. I have done it with heddle rods and pickup sticks on a rigid heddle. So it isnt just for floor looms.

Help? I've got the waffle weave pattern from Key to Weaving. If I want to weave some plain weave to use as a hem, I'm going to lift harnesses 1 & 3, then harnesses 2 & 4. Repeat. Correct? Thanks so much for your channel!
@ActonCreative
@ActonCreative 4 ай бұрын
Hi! Yep, you've got it! However, I'll add a little caveat. Waffle weave is a fabric that is meant to draw in and get very dimensional, while plain weave won't. So I might recommend using a smaller weft for your hem portion to help with that discrepancy. I hope that helps!

Hi! I love your videos! I’m dying to try this waffle weave, so this is very helpful! I see you have stripes, and I have not warped stripes yet and I am wondering how to do that with the waffle weave. Is the count, random, or per inch or a particular number of threads to match the waffle pattern? I’m not quite sure what to do to make the stripes if you could tell me that’s great or point me to a video… Also, great! Thank you so much for all your wonderful videos.😊

Hi Laura!! I'm so glad you're enjoying the videos! Here is a video about multiple colors in your warp - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gdajqpWJv9DOo4E.html With the waffle weave, I counted the pattern repeat and then created stripes that lined up with it. Does that make sense? Let me know what follow up questions you have! I'm happy to help!

@@ActonCreative so I did watch that video and it is also amazing and something I’d like to try but not with waffles. 😳 the repeat for the waffle has 7 or 14 or 21 or 28 etc …odd even count on the repeat. I’m totally lost what to do with the odd count. I’ll take a guess… tie off/tie on at the opposite end I usually do which is at the cross end? Are we allowed to do that? 🤪 I might be over thinking this?😬 I find VERY LITTLE on warp stripes how to ANYWHERE. Yours however is the most and best so far by far. I will be looking into your vip thing 🥰
@ActonCreative
@ActonCreative Жыл бұрын
@@laurasapko8424 Hi Laura! If a pattern repeat is an odd number, you can simply go 2 repeats so it's back to an even number. You can also ignore the pattern repeat and just change colors at certain inches. No problem!

Hi Jean! No worries! Just go into the video description and there's a link. But to make life easier, I'm including it here for you - actoncreative.net/2022/09/26/october-2022-weave-along/ As far as using Mary's book with a rigid heddle loom, you absolutely can! Hi Chris. It's warped and ready to go, but I'm confused. Treadle 6 is left out on the treadling draft for both the rising and sinking sheds. Help? I don't understand. Should I actually just treadle 1-6 and then back down again? Why is 6 there if it doesn't get used? Can't really tell while it's on the loom. Doesn't seem correct to ignore it. Thanks so very much!
@rainbowgal8047

Also, I'm doing this as clasped weft. Do you think that will mess with the waffle effect? It's looking pretty thick on the loom, but so hard to tell. Thanks again.
@ActonCreative
@ActonCreative Жыл бұрын
Good catch! Yes, the 6th tie-up is left out - you're right! I'm not sure why they included it if it isn't part of the treadling sequence. It's more important to follow the treadling order than the tie-ups. You're good!!
@ActonCreative

@@rainbowgal8047 If this is your first time doing waffle weave, I would try it separately - just until you really understand the pattern. Then, once you're confident with it and feel like the clasped weft will compliment it, add it in. Both waffle weave and clasped weft are prominent design features. So I would simply caution you to think through the look of the finished fabric. Will they compete with each other? Maybe or maybe not - that's for you to decide! I hope that helps!! Enjoy the waffle weave!!
