Sabaku No Komoriuta is the most beautiful song I have ever heard, and I'm 76 and have heard all of the greats, from Ella Fitzgerald to Morgana King to Etta James and I think this song narrowly edges those greats. Yuko has perfect control of her voice at all times and makes it look easy. Outside of the operatic greats, I think she has the most versatile voice in music today. There is no one that compares and Adele is the only one who comes even close. She is the unknown superstar of the music world. I have listened to this song so many times I can sing along in Japanese for certain parts and by the time I'm done I'll know all the lyrics in Japanese. Another song that is almost equal is Nijiro Chouchou, another amazing piece of songwriting by Yuko and a song that grips your heart and doesn't let go. This was the first song I started to learn the lyrics in Japanese and have done fairly well I think. Bob, you should check out the live version of Nijiro Chouchou that has English subtitles. Try Frank Garcia's channel, as he does English subtitles for quite a few of their songs. Also check out the song Hangeki No Yaiba from the 2018 Dai Shinnenkai concert and the song Izana from any of the live performances. Your best bet is to check out the entire 2020 Premium Live Symphonic Night Vol. 2, every songs is a winner, from the Overture straight through to the end of the concert. It has some of the best acoustic performances I have ever seen. Sorry, I got carried away again. I've been following the band for 6 years now and have never been disappointed.

@@SixxDazeYou are very welcome Bob.

@@SixxDaze I just remembered, there's a video I saw of Yuko singing solo in a Tokyo jazz club, not her usual metier, and she was fantastic. As soon as I track it down I'll either send you the link or just the name of the video.

Those songs you recommended are amazing. I would also recommend: "Nadeshiko Sakura".

@@TheCyberMantis The acoustic versions of Doppo, Ami Noche Kanjouron and Hana Ichi Monme from the Live Symphonic Vol. 2 are also amazing. There are just so many great performances, like The Aria of Life and Queen of the Night, no one else could possibly compare.

Really happy to have watched your reaction, Bob! It is exactly that, mesmerizing. Her voice and the song drifts you into another realm, maybe that of ancient Japan. If a song can do that, you know they must be doing something right! Probably my top 3 from Wagakki Band for sure.

This is a masterpiece. Desert Lullaby was written by Yuko Suzuhana with Premium Symphonic Night Vol 2 in mind. The song is written for band and orchestra

Sabaku No Komoriuta was released in April of 2018 and performed several times live prior to the concert at Osaka-Jon Hall in 2020. I know they did it during the 2019 React Tour in NYC.

One can truly get lost in her voice. Another band with an ability to do this is Heilung, a danish/norwegian/german group basing their lyrics on runic inscriptions from (pre-)viking ages. Awesome live -shows- rituals and music videos. The ability of their female singer to make you lost in her etheral singing is astonishing. In Maidjan (off the charts soundshaping), krigsgaldr, Norupo, Anoana (great singing/chanting) are a good start to check out her voice
This is Yuko at her finest as a composer and performer. I know of no other performer who can sculpt sound the way she does with her voice, it's like she can just think it into the place it needs to be and it's there. Melisma, glissando and that broad shigin vibrato are then used to apply colour to the shape. I've commented elsewhere, where other singers belt, Yuko soars. Machiya's solo would be the highlight of any other song it appeared in, here it's just a fitting interlude. And on top of all this, she adds theatre and hypnotic grace. As I've also commented elsewhere, she's a goddess.

Indeed she is a greaat singer. As you seem to like her ability to sculpt (shape?) sound, you might want to check out another (completely different) group featuring a female singer with an also otherworldly ability to shape sounds: Heilung, a danish/norwegian/german group basing their lyrics on runic inscriptions from (pre-)viking ages. Awesome live -shows- rituals and music videos In Maidjan (off the charts soundshaping), krigsgaldr, Norupo, Anoana (great singing/chanting) are a good start to check out her voice

Yeah, I am familiar with Maria Franz's work and I agree. I'm also a huge fan of Eivor Palsdottir who is someone else who can carve air.@@LoneStarr1979

Another song that really fits the bill and is probably a bit more personal is Campanula. The music and lyrics are just out of this world and her performance in the music video and the way it is set up is just incredible. What I find so interesting is a certain sequence of events about this song. It was the restart of her solo career and was released in 2021. In early 2020, she married Kiyoshi Ibukuro, a long-time friend and collaborator and the Koto player for both Hanafugetsu and Wagakki Band. In August of 2022 she announced that she was having their first child, whom was born in November of 2022. If you look at the serendipitous sequence of events and the prominent part of a young girl in the video for Campanula, it's almost as if Yuko has some power or premonition. It really is a heartwarming story. Yuko is a class act from beginning to end.
