The world's greatest band 👍 I think I tipped you about this band a while ago Wa = Japanese Gakki = instrument Wagakki = Japanese instrument This song is about the westernization of Japan, which happened during the Meiji Restoration. Despite having an upbeat, oriental track, the song contains rather dark themes, mentioning guillotines and ICBMs. In addition, the lyrics state things such as "Songs of lament go unheard" and "This is a banquet inside a steel jail cell". This concert was meant to be Daishinnenkai (New Year's Concert / Party) 2021 in January but was postponed to August the same year due to Covid. Thus Manatsu no daishinnenkai (Midsummer New Year's skincare / party). All the audience had to deliver a negative test, use a face mask, were not allowed to sing loudly or shout, therefore this version lacks response from the audience when everyone is gathered in the middle of the stage in the middle of the song WGB constantly puts together big shows, One of Japan's most popular bands at the moment. Everyone is professional on their instruments, All songs are good, no one is equal, Metal, rock, jazz, ballads, funny songs, sad songs, etc. WGB is an 8 piece band: Yuko Suzuhana - Shigin, vocals (Founder of WGB) Machiya - guitar, vocals (Arrangement) Beni Ninagawa - tsugaru shamisen (Three strings (guitar looks like)) Kiyoshi Ibukuro - koto (Japanese National Instrument) Asa - bass Daisuke Kaminaga - Shakuhachi (Bamboo Flute) Wasabi - drums Kurona - wadaiko, Taiko (Traditional Drums) Can highly recommend: Hangeki no yaiba - Daishinnenkai 2018 "Hotarubi" - Premium symphonic night Vol.2 "Ignite" - Manatsu no Daishinnenkai 2020 "Iroha Utha" - Manatsu no Daishinnenkai 2020 Can't wait to see more of your reaction to WGB, They only have good songs and everyone is professional on their instrument. Stick to live performance as MV will most likely be blocked, They are best live anyway. They ended their 8th anniversary tour infinity late November last year. Last Sunday they held their Daishinnekai concert 2022 Great reaction by the way 👍

I love Yuko Suzuhana, she is so talented. She also plays classical piano and is a Shigin master and teacher. Shigin is an ancient form of poetry recital which started in China and later introduced to Japan. She uses this technique in some of her music.

About Wagakki Band's musical instruments "WA" means Japan. "GAKKI" is a musical instrument. (1) "KOTO" (a large, flat instrument of about 6 feet) The ancestors of "KOTO" came to Japan from China about 1300 years ago. "KOTO" has been used without changing its shape. The body is made of fine paulownia wood. A wave-shaped groove is carved on the back of the body. This is to make the sound sound like the inside of a violin. The strings are made of silk thread. Put "Kotozume" on your fingertips and play the strings. (2) "Shamisen" (instrument like a banjo) Generally, the "shamisen" is used as an accompaniment instrument for quiet and light songs. (Current ballads, songs like light pop) However, performer Beni plays a special shamisen called "Tsugaru shamisen". "Shamisen" is evolving in various styles all over the country. Among them, "Tsugaru Shamisen" has a fast and powerful sound and a unique playing style. It seems that the reason why this style was created is that TSUGARU-SHAMISEN was born in the extremely cold region of northern Japan (Tsugaru: place name). People with handicaps (mainly visually impaired) who lived in harsh natural environments lived. They earned money by letting people listen to songs and performances. They created a unique musical style to save their lives. It can be said to be an instrument with a sad history. (3) "Wadaiko" "WA (Japan)" + "TAIKO (drums)" = "WATAIKO". And the pronunciation changes from "WATAIKO" to "WADAIKO". Like Shamisen, "Wadaiko" has evolved uniquely in various parts of Japan, and there are various playing methods. There is a band called "Kodo" which is famous as a Japanese drum performance group. They are doing performance tours of Japanese drums all over the world. If you are interested in WADAIKO, we recommend listening to the performance of "Kodo". (4) "SHAKUHACHI" (bamboo instrument like a flute) Until about 60 to 70 years ago, units of length such as "Shaku" and "Sun" were used in Japan. (The pronunciation of "sun" is like a shortened version of "soon") 1-shaku = 30.3cm (It's a coincidence that it's almost the same as 1 foot) 1-sun = 3.03cm "Hachi" is the number "8". And the average length of "SHAKUHACHI" is "1-shaku and 8-sun (about 56cm)". The "shaku and 8" part became the name of the instrument. The shakuhachi is made from bamboo grown in nature. In other words, it is not an instrument created by humans. It is a tool that allows humans to use the shapes created by nature as musical instruments. Therefore, the shakuhachi is a different musical instrument one by one, and it is a simple musical instrument with a hole in the bamboo. It is said that it is a very difficult instrument to use because it is simple. (Beginners struggle for a long time just to make a simple sound) For that reason, I feel that the skill that Daisuke controls the shakuhachi without feeling any stress is amazing. "From Japan" (This is a sentence using a translation app. I hope the intention is conveyed correctly).

Wagakki band became my instant favorite. The female singer Yuko Suzuhana is unbelievable. I love all their songs. Before I knew Wagakki Band, my favorite male singer (his music is now in second place because of Wagakki Band). Gackt has been my favorite J-Rock singer for more than 10 years. In Japan they pronounce his name as Gakuto because of the sounds in the Japanese language. He still definitely worth checking out. He is multi-talented and super famous in Japan. His vibrato is unique and immediately recognizable. Here are two great songs from him, Cube (live) : kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b56dh9Bz0Nq1lJc.html Redemption (live) this one rocks : kzfaq.info/get/bejne/btOmerB8p7S7dGQ.html (the blue subtitles are Japanese, the white subtitles are Korean). Returner (shows him in a samurai outfit because of a the same samurai role he played in a Japanese drama (series). In Cube, you can hear low notes from him, in Returner, all the singing is done by him, even the really high notes. This song also uses some Japanese instruments. You can find out more about Gackt can do on the wiki page. Here's a link for Returner: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/l9OIfrRkmpe1cqs.html

The following two songs are recommended by me. (1) Sakura-Rising (2) Rokuchonen-to-ichiya-monogatari Reason for recommendation in (1) This is one of the songs that Wagakki band co-starred with Amy Lee. Most of Wagakkiband's songs deal with "abstract themes" such as "fun," "dream," "fantasy," and "lyricism." But the song sings a message of hope to people and healthcare professionals all over the world who are suffering from a pandemic. In other words, it is a special song for Wagakki band with the theme of "concrete real problems". Reason for recommendation in (2) Vocal YUKO has a unique and special singing ability. She uses her special abilities to show off Japanese magic (similar to Lap). This song is worth listening to once. from Japan * This is a sentence written using translation software. Please laugh if it is a strange translation.

Senbonsakura means a 1000 cherry blossoms and is an anti war song. It tells a story about samurai get ready to fight. Yuko (vocalist) created one of the greatest superbands in the modern era. Every single of those 8 musician is a master and teacher of their instruments. They write their own songs and if you are intressted what they are all about you should check out this one here. Wagakki Band live from Dai Sinnenkai 2018 (New Year concert) in Yokohama, Japan with "Hakushu Kassai". If you wanna see some other stuff they do here is Wagakki Band - "Gobousei" + "Homura" / TOUR 2018 -oto no kairou live from Tokyo, Japan. The stageshow they putt on includes rock, folk, dance, samurai swords, ballads and is as epic as its get. I saw them multiple times live and they are just must see !

Kokia is singer, songwriter, composer, arranger and producer, also playing on piano, she make music in genres like folk, pop, indie, classical crossover etc., and she has classical and operatic music education, but only in few songs she singing more operatic (for example in song "Il Mare Dei Suoni", amazing live version is from the same concert from 2012). She singing in few language, of course most of her songs are in japanese, but she also can sing in english, french, italian, spanish, irish, chinese etc. It will be great see your reaction to her. :)

Yuko Suzuhana, the leader and founder, was very worried about the decline of traditional Japanese culture such as Japanese musical instruments, shigin, and Japanese dance. "Wagakki Band" was born from the desire to "make more people interested in traditional culture." "Senbonzakura" is a song they cherish. It is one of the songs from the first album "Vocalo Zanmai" (2014), and as soon as the music video was posted on KZfaq, it attracted the world's attention and is currently played 140 million times. (Unfortunately, maybe it was the effect of transferring the record company from avex to Universal Music in June 2019, if you post the reaction video as it is, it will definitely be blocked.) As additional information, they are already touring the US in 2016.

@@ahodori2233 Thank you for the information I only knew about the few videos. The music business in Japan is so very different that in America. Yes there are bands that come together "naturally" (class mates even at non music schools, coworkers etc), Then there are what I would call the 'factory bands' and the 'Label bands'. Of course getting signed to to a big name label might mean going from being fresh out school and having a blast at 19 to being 34 and having Sony tell you YES you are going to play the Anime convention in Argentina (looking at Oreskaband for that one.

@@MrDportjoe Even in Japan, most bands gather naturally, except for special cases such as "BABYMETAL". "Wagakki Band" was also formed as "Yuko Suzuhana and Wagakki Band" with Yuko Suzuhana as the founder. What was special was that the members convened by her were professionals who were already active on the front lines.

@@ahodori2233 Thank you again. I guess my confusion stems from a British series on modern Japan hosted by Sue Perkins, and couple of episodes of Asian Boss. On reflection the issue is the development phase of a band. I only just learned that Japanese bands getting started are 100% 'pay to play' if they have no investor backing. Here in the states it is not about having to pay hundreds of dollars to get a live show.

Sebonzakura (Thousand Cherry Blossoms) was originally written as a song for vocaloids (computer-created singers. Hatsune Miku if you know about her) and the song is about the concern Japanese culture would vanish after their defeat in World 2 and subsequent western occupation. Wagakki band covered it and has made it their own. Here is the English translation of the lyrics: With a bold and sudden calling Western Revolutions starting Let our hearts be open to it Pacifist nation Riding on a penny farthing It's the flag of our sun rising Warding evil spirits like an ICBM On the train tracks, running along the line Let us move forward, don't look behind Boys and girls becoming like samurai Just like those from our previous life Thousands of cherry blossoms, Dwindling in the light Though I can't hear your voice, keep what I say in mind This bouquet that surrounds is iron poison, see Looking down at us from that big guillotine Darkness has just engulfed the universe we know The lament that you sing can't reach ears anymore We are still far away from reaching clear, blue skies Go ahead, keep shooting with that ray gun, fight! Veterans who've trained through struggles Are now officers in battle Here, and there, we see the harlots in procession This one, that one, doesn't matter Every single person gathers March on to our saintly deaths, now One, two, three, four Passing through the gates on the mountain peaks Escaping this world, kill all the evil fiends Surely, this will end in a denouement Among the crowds giving their appluase Thousands of cherry blossoms, Dwindling in the light Though I can't hear your voice, keep what I say in mind This bouquet that surrounds is iron poison, see Looking down at us from that big guillotine Darkness has just engulfed the universe we know The lament that you sing can't reach ears anymore We are still far away from reaching peaks of hope Go ahead, keep shooting, use that flashing bolt! On the train tracks, running along the line Let us move forward, don't look behind Boys and girls becoming like samurai Just like those from our previous life Thousands of cherry blossoms, Dwindling in the light Though I can't hear your voice, keep what I say in mind That bouquet that surrounds is iron poison, see Leaping down to us from that big guillotine Thousands of cherry blossoms, Dwindling in the light Once your song can be heard, we'll dance with all our might This bouquet that surrounds is iron poison, see Go ahead, keep shooting, with that ray gun, lead!
