This is from WagakkiBand Premium Symphonic Night Vol.2 Live & Orchestra in Osaka-Jo Hall February 2020. One nigh show only. The acoustics in Osaka-Jo Hall are very suitable for orchestras, so they held the concert there even though the WGB is in Tokyo. Evanescence vocalist Amy Lee joined Wagakki Band as a special guest. The song before this they performed "Bring me to life". The reason why they collaborate on this concert is quite simple. They have the same record company that proposed a collaboration. Amy liked what she heard, talked to them and agreed on a collaboration. It took them two years before the Wagakki Band invited her to the Premium Symphonic Night Vol. 2. This song is about the westernization of Japan, which happened during the Meiji Restoration. Despite having an upbeat, oriental track, the song contains rather dark themes, mentioning guillotines and ICBMs. In addition, the lyrics state things such as "Songs of lament go unheard" and "This is a banquet inside a steel jail cell". The song is a cover taken from Hatsune Miku Vocaloid recording. Hatsune Miku is a virtual person. A singing synthesizer software You have to listen to several of the songs of the WGB for example "Sabaku no komoriuta" from Otono Kairou Tour 2018.

Sort of. But the ICBM is just saying 'protects you like an ICBM' and it's 'step back from the guillotine'. It is creepy in the original hearing Hatsune Miku in her robotic voice saying ICBM. But that isn't the dark part of the song. I think the dark part of the song is '1000 cherry trees in the dark, your voice cannot reach.' And about the darkness of the eternal world. That stuff. Also there are much much darker Vocaloid songs.

From my understanding, Amy Lee loves the band and initiate the collaboration, they had a collab recorded song Sakura Rising, they also performed an unique version of Bring me to life at the same concert

Just to let you know, this was originally a vocaloid song. It's why there's barely room to breathe in this song, cause computers don't breathe. XD Amy Lee was there for a special concert with Wagakki Band I think.

If you're curious about the lead singer's vocal technique, she's using a style of singing called Enka, which is traditional Japanese singing. It features flipping often between notes very quickly and sharply, and can sound like autotune messing with pitch when singers go fast enough! 🙂

Some info: Wagakki means "Japanese music instruments" in direct translation. Senbonzakura translates to "1000 cherry blossoms". Japanese is not a tonal language, although it does feature what is known as pitch accent. In English, we stress syllables by raising the volume and increasing the length of the syllable. In Japanese they do not modify volume or syllable length. Instead, they essentially have a high and low pitch, and words will start with the high pitch and at some point transition to lower pitch. The timing of that transition indicates the location of the accented syllable. An example of a minimal pair distinguished only by pitch accent would be Hashi meaning "bridge" and Hashi meaning "chopsticks". Unlike Chinese and other tonal languages however, pitch accent is far less important in Japanese when it comes to disambiguating words. You could completely ignore pitch accent and be understood without a problem. However, you would sound very weird/wrong. Instruments featured prominently: Koto: the flat harp-like instrument. It's played with picks which are attached to your fingers. It features individual movable bridges on each string to allow for tuning each string depending on the key being played in (they can be adjusted mid-song as well) and uses pitch bends achieved by pressing the string down. Shamisen: a 3 stringed banjo-like instrument with no frets. Played with a large pick. Sakuhachi/Shakuhachi: a bamboo flute. A note on Vocaloids: senbonzakura is a cover of a vocaloid song. Vocaloids are speech synthesis programs specifically for music. They are created using a real person's voice as the basis for the synthesis, and each voice has their own mascot character, the most famous one being Hatsune Miku. Vocaloid music generally blends a number of genres, often featuring elements not often heard in pop music, such as heavy jazz/experimental music influences.

An addition to the above. Shigin is an art form unto itself that Yuko has turned into a singing style. Those, for lack of a better term, warbles (rapid pick changes) are a classic form of reciting poetry. It’s a form as old as kabuki and possibly as old as noh.

Trees, not blossoms. If you wanted to say thousand cherry blossoms, it would be "senrinzakura". If you're interested, I'll explain why.

@@kurt9395 Sure, but that's the literal meaning. You, however, are forgetting the song itself: Senbonzakura, in the context of the song, means "one thousend blossoming cherry trees", and yes, if it meant only the blossoming flowers it would be senrinzakura, if it meant the buds it would have been senkozakura, senmaizakura for the petals and senbirazakura for petals that are falling. Problem is: the song is very, very political. It talks about an idealized imperial Japan before the westernization in the Taisho Era, and the blossoming sakuras represent that ideal of the Imperial Japan, that's why they're disappearing into the night, because that ideal is being erased by the westernization process.

I think WagakkiBand is fans of Evanescence. Amy posted a photo with them during the Synthesis tour. I guess they flew from japan to see her show at the greek. The believe they were mutual fans of each other and so they invited her to do with collab. She also wrote a song with them called Sakura Rising.

Another great Japanese group is the duo called The Yoshida Brothers. They play an instrument known as a shemesen it's a type of string instrument that's like a guitar. 💗

Japanese does have certain tones, but it is not a tonal language. Tones can be different regionally, but they don't change meaning, and people from different regions usually have no problem understanding each other. Dialects are so different that they sometimes do have communication problems, however.

The lyrics, if u remember well what I read about the song, are a poem expresin living in Japan during the last years and right after World War 2, how the poet is worried that because Japan has to adapt to the Western world, it might lose its traditions and what makes Japan, Japan, , also the Senbonzakura are a metáfor fir the joung people who died in the war. And how Japan has to pay for what was done in the war, but how with the warrior spirit it will move forward to the future to a new world.

Japanese is not a tonal language. It uses pitch accents, rather than dynamic accents, but it is not tonal (cf Chinese languages).

Amy Lee is just a guest performer and in no way essential to the performance. Also They usually don't use orchestra. Saves a lot of bucks too.

I really like these guys but what I find remarkable is the customs they wear. Her voice is just wonderful and the kids play are very very good too
