This whole concert is magic. The crowd is hot for every song, the band puts on a great show, and the stage would be a dream to perform on. I never get tired of seeing the crowd pulsing in rhythm with their light sticks.

The Wagakki Band is based on a unit started by Yuko Suzuhana, who won the 2011 Shigin Concours National Tournament, with a koto and a shakuhachi player. The style of lead vocal (Yuko Suzuhana) is said to be Shigin. The unit name is "Hanafugetsu", and the members are Yuko Suzuhana (Shigin & Vo & Piano), Daisuke Kaminaga (Shakuhachi), Kiyoshi Ibukuro (Koto), and they are still active. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aKx9fNlj0aiqj6s.html Shigin is older, and it started in private schools and clan schools that trained samurai's children in the latter half of the Edo period(1603-1868), when they read Chinese poems with unique clauses. After that, it spread throughout the country as a culture in which samurai sing their poems. Wagakki Band was formed in 2013 by vocalist Yuko Suzuhana, centered on "Hanafugetsu", with the aim of transmitting traditional performing arts to the world in a more pop form. Love, love, love this performance. I think it was the first one I ever saw back in May. The next one was "Yoshwara Lament" and I have been hooked ever since. From what I have read, the Shakuhachi flute is called the "Impossible Flute" and people say Daisuke, has iron lungs to be able to play it while doing air splits, runnig, and jumping around. This particular performance is great with the gorgeous costumes, high energy, and Yuko's powerful vocals. It took me a few songs to get accustomed to her style of singing, "Shigin", which she is a master. I love her voice! I love everyone in this band. I gave you a few recommendations and links in your previous reaction. I suggest if you are interested in English subtitles go to the CC W channel. He has posted many Wagakki Band videos with lyrics. He also lists the lyrisist and composer for the songs in each video. He lists in parentheses as (guitar/vocals) for Machiya. (Vocals) for Yuko. (Wadaiko) for Kurona. (Bass) for Asa. Most songs are arranged by Machiya and I think he is responsible for the sound systems to make the quieter, tradtional instruments heard when the modern instruments would drown them out.

Thank you for the links. That's the second video I have seen of them making a music video in very cold conditions. Poor Machiya's bare feet! Is that you behind the camera? I noticed Machiya often wears a bracelet with an anchor on it. Was he in the navy? The Christmas video is very nice! Thank you for the info about it. I will have to listen to that artist in some other videos.

What an amazing time that we are in that we can enjoy Wagakki Band and so many wonderful musical artists almost anywhere in the world. I will watch the links you posted later today. The 3 string banjo is a Shamisen (actually a type called Futo-zao which means Fat Rod, and style playing called Tsugaru-shamisen, Tsugaru is the Northern tip of the main island of Japan), the bamboo flute is a Shakuhachi, the drums are Taiko, the horizontal harp is a Koto. My recommendations. Bring Me to Life with Amy Lee...and orchestra! Can you imagine how it will be. Toono Monogatari Kyuu-yon kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nrKJg9l219nQeGw.html This Toono Monogatari is an old book collects old folk tales from Toono region which is in North East Japan, and Kyuu-yon means 94, this story is the 94th in the book. Wagakki Band plays Yon-yon which is 44 and Go-go (sounds nice) which is 55. And another suggestion. How about trying some of Lovebites. I think you know what they are. The best metal band from Japan.

Daishinnenkai is Wagakki Band's New Year's party / concert "Ashita e no Koukai" is the name of the show Tengaku (Music of the Heavens) is from their first album "Vocalo Zanmai" (2014). The song is taken from Vocaloid so it is actually a cover. First performed by "Kagamine Rin" A singing synthesizer software. If you can play your instrument you can do different things on a stage. They dont have to concentrate on "hard parts" of the songs, they are all masters. And that is what Wagakki separates from many other bands.
