Funny I came across them within the past 2 years cause of a video called stereotypical music around the world (its more innocent than you may think). Well with the video doing different music like Irland -drunken sailor or US - cotton eye joe. When it got to Japan. They had a cover of Senbonzakura.

There is a video from 2021 of them doing the second song, it was during the covid crowd limits, at the end on the big screens there were remotes of people singing along.

Great reaction. All members of Wagakki Band are professional musicians, or rather masters of instruments. Before the band was formed, they already had their solo careers. It is impossible to define one musical genre in which they create. You will find everything there: vocaloid, pop, jazz, metal and of course something that is the basis - traditional Japanese music. For starters, I recommend it 和楽器バンドWagakki Band：鏡花水月(Kyoukasuigetsu)+月に叫ぶ夜(Tsukini sakebuyoru) and Wagakki Band - ゲルニカ (Guernica) / Japan Tour 2020 TOKYO SINGING or something really beautiful and emotional Wagakki Band - 砂漠の子守唄 (Sabaku no komoriuta) / Premium Symphonic Night Vol.2 Avoid official MVs, Wagakki Band is best live anyway.

Listen, Wagakki is a Superband of the highest order. Nobody comes even close in Japan to their skills. They are all teachers of their instruments and handpicked by Singer Yuko. Try "Ikusa" and "hakushu Kassai" live from Dai Shinnenkai 20218. Take the version from Frank Garcia, he never gets blocked. Trust me on that, this will blow your socks of.

The mask Machiya uses is a Noh mask from Noh theatre. This mask represents the spirit of a woman. The crack on the eye is not original. He uses the mask mostly on his own instrumental songs such as Homura (flame). He is the one who wrote akatsuki no ito (thread of dawn) as well. The song is used as an encore chant by the audience.

@@markneishi9348 The short version is: They say they want to concentrate on their own careers, but will most likely be on stage again with more and better songs for the fans in the future. Not necessarily with all current members. A hiatus in itself just means a break They will probably end this year with a solid closing tour in Japan. Excited to see what they come up with. maybe a closing concert in Tokyo Dome, like X-japan had in 1997.

Always loved Wagakki for being insanely innovative. My 3rd favorite Japanese band, next to Band Maid and One Ok Rock. This set shows their range. yes there is 2 " drumers" in reality there is the " clasical rock instruments" + some traditional japanese instruments a set of " taiko drums" a shamisen ( the " banjo looking thing") , a koto ( a table cythar) and a shakuhachi ( a type of banboo flute)!

Yeah thats the great thing about Waggaki. With the different instruments. That you can hear all of them. Also watch Asa (bass) and Machiya (guitar) and tell me they dont give off best friends vibes. Im telling ya. Those two whdnever i see videos of Waggaki. They do give off that they are best friends outside of the band.

the singer uses a technique that was created or rather nurtured to sign along the traditional japanese instruments that were way too ..flat? or sharp? i cant find the word . So the singing has a focus in, lets say, nasality in order to soft down and bind the strings and drums with the fluid sound of the wind instruments.

Hey, i judt found your channel, and y'all are awesome! I think you'd love the band "Windir". This jamuary was the 20th annnivarsary of the frontman unfortunately dying in a snowstorm. You can't really go wrong with any of thwir songs, but i would start with "Svartasmeden og Lundamyrstrollet", "Arntor ein windir, or "On the mountain of goats", if you prefer some heavier shit ;) they are pretty similar to moonsorrow in many ways.
