There are eight members in this band, but they do breakdown into various subsections during shows, sometimes, like here, for the contemporary instruments (giving Machiya, Asa and Wasabi a chance to let their hair down), sometimes just the traditional elements, or any mix of both. Personally, I love this aspect of the band, after all they each are true masters of their respective instruments and it gives everyone a way of showcasing their skills etc in a way that can't be done when they are all together. It's just another reason why I think they are one of the most creative bands out there, and why they have become one of my favourite bands.

Thank you for the reaction, having actual commentary is becoming rare so props for that! Machiya is probably my all time favorite guitarist, but all the members are to be fair fantastic. The late Mikio Fujioka who played for Babymetal was also a very unique guitarist, he used the whammy bar more than anyone I've ever seen. spaolozzi's suggestion might be what you want next, but for the one after that I would recommend Tengaku (Music of Heavens) if you just want an energetic masterpiece: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/obl6gbCC19jLpqM.html

I think Machiya is a more technical player and has an unique style of playing, while Fujioka, Ohmura and Leda all have their own different and interesting styles but are more focused on speed.

One reason the guitar sounded so different is that it has 7 strings instead of 6, and 29 frets instead of the traditional 24 and he uses all of them. Another reason is that Machiya was the most sought after session guitarist in Japan before joining the Band due to his fast fingerwork. He is also a Sound Engineer so he understands how to get the most from an instrument.

The best Wagakki Band video to check is the Homura/Akatsuki no Ito. It's an instrumental with 5 of the 8 members, followed by a full song with the entire band.

Wagakki is a very innovative band. In this cut you get to see 4/8ths of the band and the extreme metal end of it. Not a very good cut to see Wagakki from at all, but excellent for seeing half of the band doing one of the concepts they bring to a concert. The variation in tone and instrumentation is amazing. They have a PHD in ancient flutes, an award winning historic Japanese folk singer, a koto player and Beni Ninagawa is killer on the Shamisen. None of that is in this cut, so back up and redo with a different cut or you just did not get Wagakki. Allow me to suggest: Kyoukasuigetsu+Tsukini sakebuyoru, where you will get the full band experience, an utterly unique thing, dare I mention: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/l72cgMZe1ciok2w.html

Wagakki Band is a supergroup in the truest sense of the word. They dabble in various genres and do a great job in all of them. A good introductory video is Homura + Akatsukino Ito from the first tour in Japan in 2015. It really gives to a great intro to the group and the dichotomy between the modern instruments and traditional instruments. Another great video is Gobousei + Homura from the 2018 Oto No Kairou, which goes more into the traditional instruments and traditional dance of Japan. It is really something to see. Even has some swordplay in it, lol. You will not be disappointed.

You picked the wrong song fellas, most of their songs have all eight members on stage, but they do sub groups for some of their songs. Try this one for a full taste of who they are kzfaq.info/get/bejne/l72cgMZe1ciok2w.html
