LYRICS:
You're still the person I remember
Make sure they're watching so you're the center of attention
I start to wear thin
Your mind's the drug and you skipped the intervention
You will never change
You'll take it to your grave
You're still the person I wanna see less
Your identity as deep as your flesh
You come around like it never happened
I'm the knife you're the gun fight I'll never win
You will never change
You'll take it to your grave
I've given all you can take
(Never let it go, never ever let it go)
I've given all you can take
(You’ll take it to your grave)
Burn the pages
But you can't erase it

Wage War originally caught my attention through songs like "The River" and "Stitch". Those were songs driven by really extreme feelings caused by betrayal and such. I´ve tried writing heavy songs like that, but it doesn´t work unless you either choose to portray yourself as the purest form of evil humanity has ever encountered or are driven by the feelings I previously mentioned. And at some point in life you will find yourself out of things you can write incredibly heavy songs about. While "The River" was about being betrayed by someone that meant everything to you, "Who I Am" is about people (in general) talking down on artists in the media like they never would if they were face to face. The anger against haters can´t be as intense as the anger against a loved one who turned on you. Take that into concideration when listening to "Pressure". My 2 cents on "Pressure": The heavier tracks are pure fire. The softer ones feel like they did (Stadium-)Rock/Metal Covers of pop songs they had written. And you know what? I fucking love it. Way to go Wage War. I hope that "YOU never change, YOU never change,..." ;) Greetings from Germany, Dominik

Well put and fair points, my man. My problem with the album isn't the amount of cleans or experimentation, it's the empty feeling it gives throughout the album as a whole. Majority of the songs feel kinda bland and formulaic and lack the intensity I was hoping to hear in it. Even Cody's vocals feel weak compared to what he's usually capable of in songs like Johnny Cash and Don't Let Me Fade Away. I feel like the only decent songs that gave what I was looking for are Low, Me Against Myself and Ghost, the rest just have some things I'm not a huge fan of or feel too underwhelming. They're way more skilled musicians than they showed on this record and I'm hoping they'll pick up their pace back and release a new banger of an album. But for now I think they just ran out of steam, so we should probably give them time.
@CellarStudioProductions

@@Owlwasnothere You got some valid points there. Had that feeling as well at first. But the album grew on me. here's something to keep in mind: The band formed 5 years before they put out their first album. Even considering some line up changes that is a lot of time to become really fucking good at writing songs in a certain style. On this album (like they've stated themselves) they were trying to break boundaries and pushing there sound to different genres. That also means that they didn't have as much experience with some of the styles they tried on this record. And what do people tend to do when something is new to them? They use formulas. Anyways... I think they'll be stronger the next time around. Cheers, Dominik

Come on people. This song is not as heavy as other songs of this band but let them get out of their comfort zone, this kind of experimentation with other styles gives metalcore fresh air, and we metalcore fans need it so bad, otherwise the genre may get obsolete.

There’s some really solid tracks in there and even though the album feels a bit all over the place style wise I find myself listening to bits and pieces of it consistently the past few days. My favorite album is still the first album by far but there are some tracks here I’ll be coming back to in the future.

Yeah, the first album is the best. But sometimes people forget that bands have to try something different every now and then. I feel like the new album is kinda all over the place to but its a good mix of soft and heavy. I think they did a good job, too many times there are heavy bands that try softer songs and then before you know it there entire album sounds poppy. If you've ever listened to Sugar Ray's first two albums you know what I'm talking about. I think they had a good mix on this one.

To all saying that they dont agree with Britons clean vocals, you will never change (in respect to a continued mindset, that can be). Thats how deep this song is, but it flys over your head. Change is always possible, even when you think its too late, dont lose hope. Im not saying by any means you will always have more chances to follow a desired path. Paths and changes are not the same to a full extent. Not everone will applaud your every move either. Changing takes time as well, persevere. One lonely piece of the puzzle never makes sense, until it comes together. People go through repeating hells to come out stronger and with knowledge to help others make it out. Opportunity isnt always equal amoung us no matter what you believe. Sometimes its being at the right place and right time, meeting the right people (some people will "troll" your situation, yes people like that exist), could be a number of things that affect your "change". Life isn't simple and even this song does not cover every aspect of what betterment is and how it comes about individually. I hope the best for those who need real support from others in their struggles.

I hate when people say pop stars are sellouts. They start making pop music, and keep making it. They give their fans what they want. Being a sellout is going in a musical direction that promises more "air time" while abandoning the fan base that got you where you are. Unfortunately, I see more selling out in metal than I do in pop.

I'm honestly super disappointed in you guys in the comments. They put out 2 great first albums where they established their signature sound and they've always wanted to show us their range and goddamn it they even put out a song to remind us that they are human and go through phases of depression and mental illness just like the rest of us. So for you all to just dismiss this album in its entirety when there is so much diversity in terms of sound and heart in it just because all of the songs aren't heavy you should actually be asking yourselves how long you'd actually stick with them if they didn't innovate? I fell in love with this band because of who these guys are and like briton I too struggle with self loathing and depression so I am so proud he came out of his shell this album to give us those cleans we so begged for. I can't wait to see you guys in Portland and meet y'all and I can't wait to see how you guys further evolve

It's awesome that you see it this way. I get so tired of seeing people hating artists for not sound the way THEY want them to sound. They are sending an important message out to fans letting them know, "we are all human, and we all struggle." Yet all most fans can think about is it's not heavy enough, there's not enough heavy breakdowns, it's too soft... Either support a band through it all, or don't call yourself a fan.

I’ve been listening to this album non-stop. I like it a lot. I hope the band takes the criticism from others with a grain of salt as they should because it comes with the territory when a new album comes out and doesn’t cater to their “fans” ears. It happens all the time.

This album isn’t terrible, I’m really glad Britton is singing more (cause when I saw Johnny cash stripped, I had no idea he could sing so that was rad) With that being said, this albums lyrical content is kinda weak compared to previous albums imo deadweight and blueprints are top tier albums in my mind, this is basically like what Bullet did with Temper temper lol

Exactly brother. It’s the classic damn if you, damn if you don’t. These people will NEVER be satisfied with what these guys put out, which is why WW should continue to grow and expand their sound. Bugs me when people say “omg what happened to these guys” when they don’t stick with the exact sound they’ve done in previous years.

Cody actually created those riffs 6 months before “A match made in heaven” was released and it’s completely different chords being played. I know because Seth gives me guitar lessons and he showed me the date and the video. He didn’t wanna throw the riff away because another band wrote something similar.
