We found this unique player online and had fun determining how it was used in the mid 90ies.

Perhaps the company meant D.A.T. in like a general sense, in that DCC is a tape that does record audio digitally? Rather than referring to the specific Sony DAT format.

A unique device; not that interesting from a technology point of view, but definitely interesting that some company saw enough of an opportunity to do this. Too bad there's not more known about the story of this device.

Not that I know of.

Sony never made a DCC recorder but after the demise of DCC, Marantz (owned by Philips at the time) made at least one MiniDisc recorder. The Philips remote control codes for DCC were reused for MD.

I had one of those ^^ Actually still have a couple tapes for it. There was a story going around that you could also use regular metal tapes. I did try it but can't remember if it actually worked ^^

Can you remember where you bought it?

Wat mij erg opvalt is dat de belettering er nog zo keurig uitziet. Meestal zijn de letters al losgekomen aan de zijkant. Weinig gebruikte unit dus. Mooie video weer.

So basically the dcc recorder has nothing different from a dcc-170, The extra hardware that would have come with the recorder is a PCI card that connects internally into a desktop and has SPDIF out to connect to the recorder, This is technically can be done with any recorder with optical or coaxial input not just a dcc recorder.

All true. Hence my wondering on why this exists.

so I think this might be some kind of way for making audio books ....

Wait what happened? Was the computer reading the text and the DCC recording what it heard or was the DCC generating the voice from text? I'm not entirely sure what was actually happening?
@DRDCC11 ай бұрын
The computer generated the audio and the dcc would record that audio from the soundcard.

@@DRDCC okay thanks... So what is so special about this unit apart from it's title? I record audio to compact cassette from a computer to this very day... I remember the first time I recorded tape from my Walkman onto my 85Mb HDD in my 386DX40 computer in the early 90's... I still remember having to remove all my files to record one song in wav format... Had MP3 been around, maybe I could have got an album in LoL... I didn't know much back then but I already knew that I would like to keep my music on my computer... I didn't know it then but that was the beginning of the end for tape, but here I am today still hanging in with my tape collection that I still use... And they will keep serving my till time stops for me...
