I was at Ueno Zoo last year. Generally a decent zoo, but it still has some "old" style enclosures that you wouldn't see anymore in most of Europe for example. Very small or "unnatural". Especially the bird cages, the hippos and the polar bear remained in my memory. In general the polar bear seemed miserable. Hopefully they get a proper upgrade soon. And by the way, the line was for the female panda (that had babies last year) while the other panda was the male.

hey daily vlogger mudan!!! this is my attempt to have my recommendation printed on a big paper just like the previous comment so im here to suggest a yakiniku place for you in Asakusa! the place is called やきにく語り and i stumbled upon it because our airbnb that time was only a walking distance from the restaurant. we had a great meal there at a good price point in my opinion (around 3,000 yen per person) and the staff were very nice and friendly even if they could not speak english (they do have an english menu) if u ever need to visit a yakiniku place for your future vlogs i recommend checking this local place out :)

Disappointed that the Shoebill didn't get a proper mention. Those birds look menacing. Day 22 of recommending Mudan to go to Eigakan, a Jazz / Japanese Film bar run by a former 60s Japanese film director. Seeing it included in your bar speedrun would be a piece of history. The current owner is going to retire within the year. Though the new owner(s) are cool as well, they kickstarted the take-over for the bar to preserve it.

I visited Ueno zoo the same day as this video(walked past Mudan). The shoebills seemingly were not in the enclosure, which can be due to them hiding, health issues, renovation, etc. this was the case for a lot of the enclosures

Wow that's super cheap. In my area of the US, it's $30-$40 USD each and then $20 parking. Admire how you are able to keep up daily videos and keep busy. Getting your money's worth being in Japan and doing something every day.

I went to Ueno zoo back in 2013. The pandas were in a massive area up by the entrance and there was no need to queue! Also got to see one fall out a tree which was pretty cool. We did see a really depressed Sun Bear but that was made up for when we went to the reptile house and got to see a gigantic Crocodile being fed! Shame about the monorail too. that ws fun and a good way to get back up the hill.

Yeah, it sucks to see animals doing the prison pacing thing in their enclosures. The staff does care a lot and tries enrichment activities all the time.

If you want experience more old school Japan in Tokyo, I recommend to visit Kyu Asakura House (The Old Asskura House) in Daikanyama, Tokyo. Beside visiting and going around nice traditional house you’d also unlock not popular, but cute area of Tokyo with modern cafes and nice places in general.
