"Spirituality for Today"
If we can question our nature and are willing to look at things from a different viewpoint, to try and understand what is going on inside of us and take responsibility, we can begin to develop the power to change our life and our reality.
Most don't want this. They love their drama and like to suffer and to be miserable and they don't even know it. It is insane.
Think of your life - Do you suffer? Do you have problems? Disturbed? Easily upset? Are you ever in conflict - feelings of Anger, Anxiety, Depression, Hurt, Fear? Then your asleep.

I love the book! As I read it I can hear his voice...It is a total eye opener and those that want easy answers and "how to" lists would not like the book. It forces the reader to question everything and to ponder. It is critical thinking at its best. I am re-reading it because every time I do I find more passages to chew on. Lectio Divina for sure. An inner dialogue with myself and God. Beautiful!

At the beginning of my awakening I became totally nihilistic, I don’t like the system (governments, schools, etc.) so I became bitter with the world and I think a lot of us go through it and after some time you get tired of feeling bitter and you start to live your life, but without a care, at this point all I want is peace, health and enough money to live comfortable but I also find peace in not being attached to material things and I know that nature makes me feel peace, a good view on a park makes me feel peace, big winds in the middle of trees give me peace, a good sunset gives me peace! It started as a coping mechanism and now I actually enjoy it and need it, stress kills so I don’t really be stressing anymore as I used to, I totally let go and I'm not scared of death, so that is liberating.

I'm blown away by this talk, especially how he goes over the drug of approval. Look at the world of today, especially social media like instagram and everything else. We're seeking the approval of others and yet ultimately it has no value. But damn it's so deep-rooted and thus so difficult to see through this illusion. But Anthony says at 1:02:38: "If you can understand this my dear friends the understanding will melt the addiction. And you will be free and you will understand the loveliness of what prayer is. Then you will discover what reality is, what god is, because you will have dropped one of the biggest illusions: the illusion that we need to be appreciated, to be popular, to succeed, to have prestige and honor and popularity. There's only one need and that need is to be real and that need is to love. When one discovers that, one is transformed one's life becomes prayer."

Anthony DeMello famously said: “The first thing to realize if you want to wake up is that you DON’T want to wake up...” Our somatic programming DOES NOT want to wake up (aka: deprogram). Instead of listening to and believing the resistance/repression - which can look like feeling stuck and dysregulated, among other things - we can just expect it. Here’s just a few tricky ways that repression can show up in our experience: 1. Nervous System Dysregulation 2. Addictive Behavior 3. Anxiety and Depression 4. Chronic Pain 5. Compulsive Enemy Making 6. Chronic Self-Doubt 7. Brain Fog and Confusion 8. Bouts of Self-Hatred / Self-Attack 9. Isolating and/or Withdrawing 10. Choice-less Approval Seeking and Giving Our Power Away to Others 💚

6:27: If your being is good, your works will be good. Transform your being by seeing, not by fixing yourself. 15:48: It is not life that is hard, it's you who take it hard. 18:58: Programming. No thing ever hurt you but your conditioning, from the way you see life. 57:48: Soul feelings and world feelings. Competition: winning is a thrill, an excitement. 1:00:37: Being controlled by world feelings, marching at the beat of other people's drum. We live on ideas 1:08:28: What love is not: attraction, dependance, desire. Strong emotions distort the seeing. The illusory images we hold on our heads about who the other is. Dear nobody, thanks for this. I had watched parts now and then but never the full extract. Your channel made me discover Vernon Howard, and I started reading The Mystic Path to Cosmic Power. I thought I had read everything and listened to everybody, but the insight now is very original and powerful. At some point in the beginning of the book he talks about the picnic being rained out, or the broken promise, which have no effect on us, only our reaction to them. This was written in 1967 and I realise Anthony deMello is using the same examples almost like quoting the book, in this video. Some 20 years after. Very happy to have discovered Vernon Howard and thanks again no one (or maybe better thanks the One to bring me on the Path again)

"The One" :) Thanks for the feedback. That book is a gold mine. Also, Esoteric Mind Power - is another worth getting a copy of. It is amazing how we will allow things that are entirely out of our control to bring us into a negative state. Unconsciously - Mechanically reacting negatively to things. The immaturity of it all. Having repeated it so many times, we have become addicted to the Crap but would deny it despite the self-evident signs. Patterns of repetitive behaviors with negative consequences. Why not respond appropriately instead of reacting? is it not a choice? How much must we suffer before we make change where we can? "It is as simple as this: We cannot cling to our negative emotions without paying the price." - V.H.

I also love listening to Krishnamurti's talks. Krishnamurti said something like, "So long as there's a centre, there will be conflict." The centre is the same as the thinker and the observer. With this in mind, then so long as you identify as the centre (which is of the past), then the drug of approval will go on? And it's only when there is no centre/observer/thinker operating that this drug comes to an end?

I was very depressed and stressed over Christmas I am every Christmas and I realised Christmas just pushes my buttons, but I also realised that all that stress inside of me needed to be examined because before I’d just buried it and as I say it came back every year. Funny thing now Christmas is over I am experiencing true happiness for no reason at all just because nothing is pushing my buttons. So I urge everyone to examine your stressful thoughts all that unconscious programming because as long as it’s buried you will go on having your buttons pushed.

I've read the Awareness book while comparing it to his actual talk and something was a bit off putting about how it had been edited in some places. Especially with the claim on the book that it's "in His Own Words." In the begging of the book: Awareness - A de Mello Spirituality Conference in His Own Words. (Published after his death) It is written: "Do you think I am going to help anybody? No! Oh, no, no, no, no, no! Don’t expect me to be of help to anyone." (page 6) In reality he said, "Do you think I'm going to help anybody? Oh no, no, no, no. I don't expect to be able to be of help to anyone." kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rNCaZ8qcztG0ip8.html Editing "I don't expect to be able to be of help to anyone." into "Don’t expect me to be of help to anyone." conveys a different message, painting a negative picture in my opinion. I really find this a rather questionable edit. This paired with the church condemning his writings, I think that some people that heard the warning, but decided to explore anyways, might have read this and stopped, thinking the church might be right. ... This is just one example, in the first few paragraphs of the book.

nah, I doubt Tony de Mello was killed. He had some type of cardio vascular problem his brother Bill said. i think the plane journey from India to the US may have triggered DVT (deep vein thrombosis). That's why some people wear those flight-socks on airplanes. What a loss for humanity.

When I hear the story about the man teaching the art of making fire, I think of Jesus given DeMello's catholic audience and the different picture that paints of priests or so-called saints, hence DeMellos's quote; "Sinners have often spoken the truth and saints have led people astray. Listen to what is said and not who is saying it." DeMello was liberated from identification with the body and from any single path that proclaimed itself the only and true path to God- not excluding Catholicism. He was truly fearless and spent his days purposefully and passionately leaving these morsels of truth for us. Those like his brother Bill who feel Anthony was taken prematurely sadly did not understand the fact that Anthony reminded us that nothing in life is premature just as he proclaimed that there are no bastard children and no national borders in reality. He spent his days lovingly pointing to ths; "All I did was sit on the riverbank handing out river water. After I’m gone, I trust you will notice the river.” (I was friends with Bill DeMello on Facebook before deleting my acct 2 years ago. And Bill said the church refused an autopsy. Anthony was treated as the property of the church, end of story. Bill also expressed with great sadness that Anthony had recently had a physical and was given a clean bill of health shortly before his sudden death.) The church definitely saw him as a threat and I feel took him out; nevertheless, Anthony was more than ready for the inevitable. Remember, he says, "You want to take my life?! Go right ahead! He also proclaimed, "Enlightenment is absolute cooperation with the inevitable. " He was in this world but no longer of it which is why he wrote and spoke so fearlessly. "There were rules in the monastery, but the Master always warned against the tyranny of the law. ‘Obedience keeps the rules,’ he would say. ‘Love knows when to break them.’”

I have a question regarding these teachings. So if we lose all our need for others' approval and all our fear of others' judgments, how is one's moral conduct ensured and enforced? Does this approach not validate sociopathic behaviour?

Observe yourself, your thoughts and behavior, without judgment. Seek to understand yourself.. Awareness is what is called for. That is what demello is pointing to. If you truly desire to growth you will listen to demello with the intent of learning something new. Listen and you will teach yourself.

Now if someone can explain to me how as society we moved from this to we need to change the world to be safe and feel accepted rather than trying to change ourselves

It all might be a case of mistaken identity. What’s interesting is you and the God of the Bible both identify with “I Am”. You believe you are atheist, A•theist is what? A = determiner. Theist = belief in a deity. Atheist = a theist
