Today our beloved Marley crossed the rainbow bridge. She lived 11 wonderful year with my friends family. She passed with family nearby. Thank you, everyone, for being able to share a happy memory with us. And, Rest easy, Marley. We love you.

I no longer "rescue" my dog by waking him up from an assumed nightmare, but inject myself into it by calmly speaking to him, "What's that, Buddy? Is it a squirrel (deer, chipmunk)? It's ok. Get em, Buddy." Works just as well, and whatever he's dreaming about gets to play out with me by his side. Sorry for your loss, btw.

Marley was not having a nightmare here- she was merely dreaming. She was likely running in her dream, hence the leg movements. Hearing dogs whimper and seeing them twitch might be unnerving at first, but they are simply barking and enjoying a good run in dreamland. She will be missed.

But it also doesn't exclude them having a nightmare either. I twitch in my sleep only when I'm having a bad dream. And I've owned ten or so dogs my entire life, literally none of them whimpered in their sleep. What the fuck are you even talking about? You're acting like you were inside of this dog's head while they were sleeping. I hate watching pet owners project their own shit onto other pet owners. Mind your business and enjoy the video, or don't and move on anyway.

My dogs back legs don’t work anymore (he’s a corgi who suffered form seizures) and whenever we see his legs twitch while he’s sleeping, I imagine he’s running in a field and able to use them again. Edit: I wasn’t able to get into my account but I’m back! Unfortunately my baby passed away around six months ago, we had to put him down. We now have two other dogs and still cherish his memory dearly. For the people saying I should’ve woken him up because it’s a nightmare, how do you know? Sure, he may have some, but twitching doesn’t mean fear. Also, it isn’t your place to comment on when a persons pet should die. We had to make the decision when he wouldn’t eat anymore and was becoming over aggressive. Rest in peace, Buster!

When a dog has a nightmare you can also put your hand in front of its nose. The smell of you will make the dog think of you, which may turn the nightmare into something better and make your dog stop whining. Works for my dog every time.

My dog use to have nightmares. Got him from the shelter and he was blind. Took a while for him to get comfortable but eventually he did. Some nights he would cry in his sleep but when I pet him, to comfort him, he would cuddle close to me and rest his head on my lap. Eventually, he died from cancer. I miss my bubba =(

@@stefankisiel3937 yeah, but nightmare whimpers are a little different. It’s sometime hard to tell, but sometimes if a dog is in a tense position it can show that they are having by a nightmare. Ive seen dogs with their tail is curled inward when they were having nightmares also

@jordyn There is no indication the dog was having a nightmare that I can see. Besides, a bad dream is a natural biological process designed to prepare the individual for something like that occuring in reality. Why would a natural process be damaging to the person it is affecting, not unless it got pathological.
