I hate to differ about being knowledgeable about this show in particular... first, they are appearing in a promo show for the musical, and they are 2 different characters in the musical: Rachelle (the replacement for character Gigi, who appears only in this scene in the entire musical) is NOT a replacement for Lea's character (lead character Kim, present in all the show - Lea's replacement was Eva Noblezada) . Second, you're NOT mentally exhausted at this point, as this song comes in the first 15 minutes of the show.....it's the beginning of what leads you to exhaustion. This is a juxtaposition of a character who'd done this for a long time - Gigi- and a new girl in the bar - Kim - who both have the same dream of leaving that lifestyle. I wish Waleska had done a bit of prep work, but.... she didn't.

Lea originated the role of Kim in both West End and Broadway. Rachelle Ann was given the role of Gigi in Ms. Saigon's revival, first in West End and later on in Broadway. This duet was a special number in the 25th Anniversary Gala of Miss Saigon, held in London. At the time, Rachelle is the current Gigi.

Rachel Anne Go is actually playing Gigi and not Kim. But she is still Blessed as she was able to have a duet with miss Lea Salonga. Still they both represent the Philippines internationally and we are so proud to what they have become.

@@evelynjayme4671 isay alvarez is the original west end cast while marina chapa is the original broadway cast. monique wilson(understudy for the role of kim) is the original west end cast.janine desiderio is not included in both. 2014 west end and 2017 broadway cast for the role gigi was played by rachelle anne go.

The reason why the crowd broke out into applause when Rachelle was singing was because at that moment she broke character and decided to do it in a different way from what is canon. You can see that Lea looked proud and was delighted by what Rachelle did. In that instance, Lea broke character as well and reacted in pleasure to what her friend was doing. :)

It's a gala performance after the real show. A special performance for the 25th anniv where they brought back some of the original cast to perform some songs. It's a 20 min special. Simon Bowman was there too. Lea and him performed Solo Saxophone with the new Kim and Chris - Eva and Alistair. Jonathan Pryce also performed The American Dream with the current Engineer- Jonjon Briones. The showrunners allowed them to do their own thing since it's like a concert treat for the audience.

I immediately felt giddy as soon as I saw the thumbnail of the reaction video! Rachelle was known in the early 2000’s as a pop singer and singing mostly Mariah Carey’s. However, when she made the shift to theater, her vocal prowess grew larger and she successfully followed the fame Lea received in West End. Im still hoping I can watch her in Hamilton West End but London is in Tier 3 lockdown!! Ugghhh!

Lea was like a proud momma to Rachelle here especially when Rachelle belted lol. You can say that Rachelle was sort of Lea's Protege. Lea was the one who encouraged Rachele to audition for Miss Saigon during the Manila casting after watching her play the role of Ariel in the Manila production of Disney's The Little Mermaid. This performance was during the 25th Anniversary Gala Concert that proceeded immediately after the actual show on West End. In one interview, Lea mentioned that they were given the liberty to perform the songs however they wanted so this is not how it is actually performed in the musical. Close but they were allowed to break character.

Rachelle lives in London with her husband. She is next most accomplished Broadway and West End performer from the Philippines and also felt to be the one who followed Lea. I think she is playing in the lead in Hamilton.

Agree, seeing Miss Leah Salonga performed in Miss Saigon is phenomenal. I felt the feelings, so heavy and painful. In the end, still feels happy because of a wonderful performance. For sure, you will be given a chance to see them perform live in Miss Saigon. Stay healthy to both and God bless always.

Rachelle Ann Go is a contemporary of Sarah Geronimo. She left behind a very good singing career in the Philippines to audition for Miss Saigon. Honestly, I am amazed that she was able to change her style of singing to musicals.

Efra was right, Rachelle Ann Go played Gigi, not Kim (Lea's role). The Filipina who first played Gigi, alongside Lea, was Isay Alvarez. The impact of their scene singing Movie in My Mind is seeing and hearing the thoughts and emotions of Gigi who's had to battle the world of the bars and prostitution way longer, sort of as a veteran, vis-a-vis Kim who was facing that world for the first time. Hence, it's not actually a scene that's draining...not just yet, as it's the first that starts the emotional debacle. Oh, if memory serves me right, Rachelle played Gigi alongside Eva Noblezada (another of Philippine descent) as Kim and in their run The Engineer was also played by a Filipino, Jon Briones.

That was the Miss Saigon 25th anniversary concert sometine in 2015 as i remember?...just a trivia,,lea played Ms. Saigon in 1990. Eva Noblezada which is also a filipina played the role in Ms.Saigon revival in 2014. Rachel Ann played the Role of Gigi in the Revival. You can also watch Rachels duet with Eva in youtube...

Rachelleann Go played the role of Gigi, the leader of Vietnamese girls in the Cabaret, Kim played by Lea as one of those Vietnamese girls in Cabaret. During the time of Lea as Kim another filipina named Isay Alvarez played the role of Gigi. This time with Rachelle as Gigi the role of Kim is another young filipina based in America her name was Eva Noblezada.

I watched Miss Saigon twice on Broadway. I missed Lea the 1st time and I did see Rachelle Ann Go the 2nd time. IMO, Lea still the best Kim and Rachelle is the best Gigi.

They did this after one of the shows in West End for the 25th Anniversary of Miss Saigon in 2016, before the show was reopened on Broadway the year after. Rachelle Ann played Gigi in the show alongside Eva Noblezada who played Kim (all of them Filipinos). Rachelle Ann also played Fantine in Les Mis before Saigon and currently, became the first Elizabeth Hamilton on West End. You guys should see her when it reopens hopefully next year. - Thanks for this reaction!

Miss Saigon was in 1989 West End, 25th Anniversary Gala was in 2014 which was the clip was held and Rachel was Gigi. The continuation of that clip was Lea sung Last Night of the World with Simon Bowman the original Cris, Eva and Alistair (2014 cast).

Lea is one of Philippine’ treasures. No one has followed her success on Broadway, winning awards from Tony’s to Laurence Olivier’. And the countless theme songs on Disney’s Princesses she performed on stage and on the silver screen. Also breaking barriers as the first Asian stage performer on Broadway and won best actress at the Tony’s. Nobody from the Philippines gained respect in the International scene like Broadway or Hollywood than Lea Salonga. Watch her strong and hair raising performance at the Les Miserables 20th or 25th ( not so sure ) anniversary where she played as Eponine. Wow oh wow! Great reactions and always loving you both. Perfect chemistry, pleasant to hear and so respectful to the performers. Two thumbs up! 👍 👍❤️

This performance was performed in the theater in 2014. It was the 25th anniversary night of Miss Saigon and after the musical there was this gala with some of the original cast from 1989. Rachell Ann Go was in the cast of the 25th as Gigi while Lea Salonga was a guest of honor at the Gala. Together they made this wonderful duet. They hadn't played the same character. Lea in 1989 and for several editions it was Kim while Rachell Gigi

I’ve been a HUGE fan of Miss Saigon since the original came out. Played that soundtrack constantly! I was able to finally see this 3 times on Broadway when the did the revival, a year or 2 ago. The storyline the music is heartbreaking and Thea show is an emotional roller coaster! LOVE LOVE LOVE Miss Saigon!!!!

this was the gala finale after the gala performance to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the musical. it was great indeed to see the original performers in the 1989 production singing with the new cast for the revival. rachelle ann go played the part of gigi and the song "the movie in my mind" she performed with lea the original kim is from the bar scene in the first act.

Lea and Rachelle performed the song, Movies In My Mind, originated by Lea in Miss Saigon way back in 1995. Rachelle later assumed the same track and like Lea had a successful Broadway career in the West End in London. It is an understatement to say that both of them are excellent singers.
