Those guitars are surprisingly cranked. Another surprise is when you notice the full-on, hard rock blare of 'Secret Agent Man.' Must've sounded wicked live.

Learned to play the guitar listening to Ventures records, later used the Mosrite Bass in a band in which I played, later went to a Fender Jazz. The Ventures were very much a part of my youth. Greatest guitar band of all time (with no disrespect to Dick Dale)

I remember when my brother's band manager was getting them all Mosrite Venture model Guitars when they were made in Bakersfield. I loved the Double Neck when I saw the Ventures using it.

Your welcome old chap, you might like the song Apache by the shadows as well, it uses the similar pot settings, its a neat sound isn't, it really cuts through the rhythm section.which is probably why they used it given the state of mixing consoles back then. The ventures also did a cover of Telstar which is a cute one and Wedding Cake Island, by midnight oil is another hit spoofing the era and using those settings you might like. Back in the days when u had to register ya surfboard like a car !

Its the typical sound of a fender Stratocaster with single pole pick ups, on the bridge pick up setting through a valve amplifier. It typifies the era. Be well.

Quite right but for some reason not exclusively. I grew up with them and am a player myself and for some reason they used to swap around even before 68, as i was fanatically always trying to imitate them as a kid. Probably because Leo Fender started the same year and was always pro active in pilfering Mosrite acts. Mosrites were twice the price of a Fender and had a better Vibrato mechanism. But other than that they are pretty much the same sound with the single pole non humbucking pick ups.

I think I prefer the recorded version but is Nokie not the coolest dude on the planet? When I play their stuff in my bedroom i have to concentrate but he looks like he's thinking what he's going to have for his tea! Does he ever look at the fretboard? Caught some of his later stuff on YT and he is a fabulous player.

the very first drummer.. Yes... He only recorded the original Walk Don't Run with them in 1960 because he couldn't go with them on their gigs coz he was under 18 then so he couldn't go to bars or something..

@gbc77000 i have to disagree. I love that big twangy sound of the mosrites, especially for this music. The switch away from Mosrite weakened the sound to my ears at least.

What a collection of over-rated, over-hyped mediocre guitar players! Simple minded, repetitive crap! Which is exactly what the market loved back then! Notice how quickly the Ventures and other 'instrumental' groups disappeared when the British Invasion began? You want to hear good guitar players from the '50's? Listen to Link Wray, Lonnie Mack, Eddie Cochrane, Bo Diddley etc.
