Walk Through Fair Oaks Mall | Fairfax, Virginia, USA | Are Malls Dead?!

Spent my Saturday morning walking around Fair Oaks Mall. Some businesses weren't open yet because the mall opens at 10 am but not all stores inside do the same. Where should we wander next?! Comment below.

"Fair Oaks Mall is a shopping mall in the Fair Oaks census-designated place (CDP) of unincorporated Fairfax County, Virginia, just northwest of the independent city of Fairfax. It is located at the intersection of Interstate 66 and U.S. Route 50. The mall has a gross leasable area (GLA) of 1,557,000 sq ft (144,700 m2). The anchor stores are Dave & Buster's, Macy's, JCPenney, Macy's Furniture Gallery, and a combination of Dick's Sporting Goods and Golf Galaxy."

This mall is not dead as this is one of the easiest malls to go to thanks to the new 66 Express Lanes making this mall very convenient for express lanws users via Monument Dr. The Monument Dr access is now in both directions to and from the express lanes and it’s the express lanes exit to this mall.

I grew up going to this mall. They used to have an A&W and I loved the curly fries. Also used to have a bunch of large steps like a theatre setting that I would run up and down on!

I moved from Fairfax Va in 2004. Haven't been to this mall since then. I think most spaces were leased back then. Depressing to see it now with so many spaces boarded up

Aw man, memories. I used to go to this mall sometimes back in the 90s. High school days 😂 I remember being able to smoke in this mall. My friends and I would walk around smoking cigarettes like we were cool. Man, those railings and elevator still look exactly the same!! They used to have a water fountain at the bottom of the elevator behind it if I'm remembering correctly.

They used to have one indeed. I think they removed them sometime in the late 2000s or early 2010s if I’m not mistaken.

I remember the fountain very well! I believe it was removed around 2010/2011.

I’ve been in Fairfax County since 2015 and I remembered a mall that was big not fair oaks I still don’t know where it is when I attempted to drive to the location I remembered there was just a demolished building.

You may be thinking of Landmark Mall in Alexandria? It was closed in recent years, and was demolished in 2022.

Tysons corner mall and Tysons galleria are great malls you should walk though them

Malls aren’t dead. Just fair oaks is bc Tyson’s is bigger and better w more stuff to do

I miss the Woodies, Hecht's , The library was and is very unique . To me One of the Best malls I've been too.1979-1999.

I was at Fair Oaks Mall right when it opened at 10 am on a Saturday. Some of the internal storefronts hadn't opened yet - but the Apple store was very busy! haha
