A sunny Friday afternoon walk in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota recorded on May 27, 2022. Starting near the millennium hotel and Hyatt Regency Minneapolis, we walk up Marquette Ave past the Minnesota Orchestra, WCCO TV, past the music wall mural (the music is “Gaspard de la Nuit”) toward the Foshay Tower, Wells Fargo Building, Baker Center, to the Mississippi River and back up 5th Ave south past the Depot, the Armory, the Elliott Park Hotel, Peavey Plaza, and more!

Yeah, I’m planning on it. A lot of people seem to be interested in that area. Will definitely be interesting to catalog it now and look at what it’s like in a few years

Why watch video of someone walking along a street with nothing to see?

Variety of reasons. I enjoy similar videos throughout the world and wanted to see something similar where I live, maybe there is someone somewhere who wants to see more of Minnesota. Another reason I record them is to hopefully look back on later and see how places have changed. I do believe there is always something to see though, be it a place itself or what’s happening on a given day. Thank you for the question

It seems so empty for a downtown city.

Yeah, that seems to be common on these weekday afternoons in Minneapolis. I think a lot of downtown businesses went remote. Maybe everyone was in their offices or had taken off early for a long weekend. I’ll go for a walk around 5-6 or so one of these days so we can see if things liven up for happy hour

@@walkingminnesota I’m staying in downtown for a concert at US Bank Stadium (I’ll be there 6/10-13). I’m starting to get nervous after hearing about the rise in carjackings and crime in the downtown area-I’m thinking of moving my hotel reservation to Bloomington, near airport. Outside of obvious precautions, should I be concerned?

Unfortunately, crime has statistically risen in Minneapolis and most major cities. I rarely feel unsafe in the cities though, especially when I’m in groups of people or at events. It’s likely you’ll have a great time and not run into any issues, but always best to set yourself up to be comfortable and if that means staying somewhere where you can sleep a little more confidently, there’s no shame in it. Personally I would stay downtown (especially if it’s in one of the major hotels) and just try be aware of my surroundings. Hope you have a great time!

@@shasharosey2366 I visited downtown MN last month-stayed for 4 days. It was empty-restaurants and stores were either permanently closed or had limited hours. It was very sad to see.
