A 4 mile solo walk starting and finishing at The Woodman Inn in the village of Nuthampstead (home to Hertfordshire's only WWII US Army Airforce Base).
The route visits the tiny village of Anstey, with it's church (containing lots of medieval graffiti and town lock up built into the lychgate) and motte and bailey castle.
I also had a look at a NATO Approved French Emergency Ration Pack.
When I returned to the pub for a cider, I was kindly given a tour of the pub and it's many black and white photos relating to the history of the village and the pub and the US Air Force base that was built at Scales park behind the pub. I gained a wealth of knowledge and information for this video, so thanks must go to Sandy, the landlady of the Woodman.
I am planning to return there soon with Candice for a look in the small museum next to the pub, to find out more about the airfield.

Enjoyable vid as ever. I used to go there in the 90's when there was a grass airstrip on the northern part of the horth south runway, wonder if its still there. I remember talking to some locals in the Woodman and some of them didn't like being on the airfield as it got dark. Perhaps they were just trying to wind me up!. There's always stories about these places. Cheers.

its those stories, true or not, that add to the appeal of these historic locations though. mythology is fascinating. thanks for watching mate.

My great grandpa's B17 bomber crew flew out of Nuthampstead airfield back during WW2. The Woodman was the local watering hole they'd drink at after missions... 398'th bomb group, 603'd squadron

cheers mate, sorry i thought you were the wife in your picture, then you told me you were 6 ft 2! haha. you can get square or rectangular sleeping bags or pod shaped ones, no idea on weight though. you could try an underquilt style sleeping bag that gets used in hammock set ups. im not sure tbh! if you need a shit take some zip lock bags, hand sanitiser, baby wipes and tissues or a small travel toilet roll. dig a small hole away from your camp and away from any water sources and bury the shit, then carry all the used tissues and baby wipes out with you in the zip lock bags or burn them! or just find a pub for a shit in lol. as far as rain jackets etc go, thats a personal preference for everyone. start off with something cheap and cheerful and use that for a while to see if this hobby is for you. then you could upgrade to more expensive or better clothing. hope this helps mate.

Some more great vids lately bud, loving the mre's too... I got myself one off ebay last week in the hope of getting out for an overnight camp but unfortunately i'm laid up with a trapped nerve in my back... pure agony and I've ended up eating the mre I had (not a military one) simply because I cant stand long enough to cook any food lol... theres a great channel on here, something like steve1989mreinfo, does old and new mre's… oldest one he opened and tried was from the Boer War!

I bought some of those lifeboat emergency ration biscuits on Amazon. I put one in my mouth for the first time a few weeks ago (wasn't an emergency) and I'd rather take a chance with starvation then go anywhere near one of those again!!😄

Yeah I did have those before. The energy gel is gone off them at this point, well gone off. I've had similar, in date versions and they're not as bad at all. I do like the commando bars. They're in the French 24hr rations too. Looks like a nice walk around there. I'm just back from nearly two in Wales. I've been around quite a bit in Wales, not so much in England. Should get over at some point really
