Schwerin / Germany is the state capital of the northern state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
On this rainy day we start our tour at the market Square. We visit the Gothic Schwerin Cathedral and continue to explore the old Town.
Soon we get to the Schwerin Castle, a neo-Renaissance palace on an island of the Schwerin lake, where we also see its elaborate gardens. The castle sits on an island in Lake Schwerin, one of several picturesque lakes.
We see more of the city as the weather gets better and end our tour at the Pfaffenteich.

Schwerin is absolutely beautiful, magical even, but very underrated as a travel destination, even among Germans. It definitely deserves more attention and tourists.

I also found Schwerin nice to see. One of the reasons why Schwerin gets less tourists is its location. It's rather far away from larger cities and airports in the area. I myself did a train trip to Greifswald and then went from there to Stralsund - Wismar - Schwerin in one day. Then I still had to go via Berlin to continue my trip for several hours on the train again.

@@poptravelorg In the coming weeks UNESCO will make a decision whether Schwerin Castle and several other royal buildings in the city will enter the UNESCO World Heritage site list or not. So, even if it is far out of the way, maybe by entering the list it'll incentivize more visitors to make the long journey? Fingers crossed Schwerin makes it on the list! :)

Oh, I did not know that about UNESCO. Well, Schwerin certainly belongs in a "complete" northern Germany tour - the band of northern cities from Netherlands to Poland. It's worth visiting when you've seen all the usual rest like Bremen, Hamburg, Lübeck etc.. - maybe even connect it with Wismar, Rostock and Greifswald on the way to Poland. Accomodation in these places was fairly expensive though - probably due to lack of competition. We'll see how it goes. If Schwerin wants a better more tourist promotion video, I'm here to help and make a better one 😎

Love this walk! NEW one too! *Quick facts* Schwerin is the state capital of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in northern Germany. It's known for Schwerin Castle, a neo-Renaissance palace with ornate rooms and elaborate gardens. The castle sits on an island in Lake Schwerin, one of several picturesque lakes. The Staatliches Museum Schwerin has 17th-century Dutch and Flemish paintings, including works by Peter Paul Rubens. In the old town is Gothic Schwerin Cathedral.

There are people who tolerate it and there are people who don't. There is always someone infringed who leaves a graffiti. Sometimes it's perceived as a valid note or as art. Sometimes it isn't. Sometimes it's only here today and gone tomorrow. And there is no such group as "Germans". That's my hometown, by the way.

@@jeanvaljean7266 I hope they meant they just don't like generalizations, like all Germans are like this and that and tolerate or not tolerate grafitti. There are however some extremist left groups that actually claim there are no German people, they want everything replaced by a multiracial and multicultural new population. I hope the person who commented isn't part of that fringe group.

It’s a shame northern German cities and architecture doesn’t get the same recognition by foreign tourists as southern cities even tho some of them are more beautiful.

Schwerin sure is worth a visit. The city is just a bit away from the rest so it doesn't fit on a particular route. My travel went Greifswald- Stralsund, Wismar (on the way to Schwerin and finally Schwerin - Berlin.

Этот город не бомбили во время войны, что редкость для Германии. Но он что-то менее известен, чем Ганновер, Кёльн и прочие города, где смотреть почти нечего.

Я вообще влюблена в этот не большой город на севере Германии, его ещё называют северной Венецией. Жила там какое-то время, тихий, уютный, спокойный,
