A friend shared this video. 😢Grateful she did but was painful, been looking for information on the Dolphin Inn. This was our family vacation home for over 50 years until life changed in 2022. It’s heartbreaking, that chapter is just gone. Also saddened to see the Hendrickson’s damage next store. Wondering, who bought the property? I never expected to get a play by play of the Dolphin Inn, thank you for the closure. I’ve been in every inch of that place. The room next to the office was our last spot from 2011 to 2022!

Used to stay on Pearl St for many years. Didn't go on a vacation until this week and went to Key West instead. We're flying home from Ft Myers in the morning so we drove up today and checked in to the hotel. My wife and I debated if we wanted to go check out what was left of our beloved paradise. We had too. We were gutted. 😢 Almost 2 years later and Ft Myers Beach is still almost unrecognizable. As I sit here in the hotel room by the airport I know San Carlos Blvd will never be the same. Sad sad day. 😞

Grade beams are never vertical but rather horizontal and run parallel to the ground/grade and are supported by vertical friction pilings or formed columns sufficient in length or run to bedrock to support the structure and attached/connected to the grade beams. This is generally considered a superior method for supporting structures on non-solid/sandy ground. Grade beams do not need to be below/buried the ground elevation and can be above grade and exposed in areas of uneven surface or elevated gound floors and may appear as footings to casual observation. For demolition purposes the efforts required to remove this type of supporting foundations will be substantial to effect complete removal. I am amazed at the amount of recycling efforts your firm preforms, Great job keep up the good work!! Ray Stormont

The residential and commercial real estate on the gulf coast rate of building is increasing hurricane exposure. I remember when the coast was sparsly populated. With all the new rebuilds and new builds the storm costs will continue to skyrocket. Building codes don’t necessarily prevent loss from cat4 hurricanes.

Living in Lee County, what has amazed me is the stories of people trying to fight and simply rebuild homes as they were. For example that single story home next to the condo that was still a wreck. Since the home was a damaged beyond a certain level it cannot be repaired as is, the laws and codes require complete removal and rebuilding to new codes (ie, not single story on the ground it has to be elevated to handle waves in the future). And Insurance will not cover that. So one possibility is the person with that home has likely gotten the insurance payout, and the property itself is abandoned (though they might be trying to sell the land .. as a tear down of course). But there have been numerous stories of people starting to do repairs to places trying to get around codes, or trying to fight the codes in the courts (and all losing) as it was that miss/miss/miss/miss/hit mentality. They are convinced they can rebuild a single story ground level building and it will be another 50 years until something hits and that is fine for them. A real shame.

I am not surprised that hurricanes in the USA cause such damage when the houses are only made of wood and cardboard. If they had decent building fabric, it would be completely different. It's all about building cheap, cheap for show, but selling expensive to increase profits. It's a strange culture.

A lot of the old houses did not make it. The new houses you can't even tell a hurricane hit. The building codes get more strict all the time. Where are you located? Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!

Great walk through. Looks like the owners didn't give you a completion date as all the salvage is going to be time consuming before you start the actual tear down of the building. Are you planning to crush the concrete on site and spread it out there as re-useable structural fill for the next building? Are the piles staying in place after the grade beam is removed? Where does all the demo material go to in your area of Florida? I am in New England where a lot of demo material is ground up and re-purposed. Is that done in Florida with space and high water table affecting disposal sites? Good luck with this project.

Its in for permit, we were salvaging, and we got kicked off the job, first time on Fort Myers Beach, we will scrap it out, once the permit is issued. Maybe take a total of 5 days, its 60 or so windows and lots of other stuff. We will haul the concrete and we will remove everything and make the lot smooth and debris free....

Well, there certainly is a cost to doing business. I guess what you're asking is, are we making a profit? Uh, definitely. We are. It's not easy. There's quite a bit to it, but you gotta get kind of organized and be persistent, and collectively everything we do.There's multiple profited centers, all work together to make us a very profitable business.
