@@Maiorianus_Sebastian hey Sebastian did proper latin still exist in Heraclius court in 630s, there aren't a lot of people making video about this topic but its really intersting one, so did latin exist in any capacity(proper latin/spoken) after 620s Constantinople for example was it still present in courts in late reign of Heraclius or his successor before Isaurian dynasty, this would be intersesting.... so basically video name would be "State of Proper Latin in late reign of Heraclius and his successors" since this won't go outside of your main interest since dominata was still in place even after Heraclius died, new system was made in late 650s and 660s to the end of 7th cnetury and at the begining of 8th century the system was basically hybred between Dominata and new System and later dominata fell out completely

Isn't it funny, we have people that see the roman conquests as civilising "barbarians" but when when the English etc did the same, it was "horrible" lol
@LordWyatt
@LordWyatt 3 ай бұрын
I know, right? I prefer to see it as it was in history. Conquests were horrible, longtime peace always desired, and often benefits from the stability of a large empire. Be it the dominance of the Romans over the Mediterranean/Europe or the British when they had the empire where the sun never set along with the dominance of the oceans with their navy. Fascinating, the Constant Culmination.
@primaitalia6586
@primaitalia6586 3 ай бұрын
You can't compare that and you know it. Besides, the Romans did things differently than the British. And the Romans who conquered the peoples were barbarians who had to be civilized, unlike the people the British conquered. Even though the Native Americans now didn't necessarily look civilized back then. Celts and Carthaginians, for example, performed human sacrifices. Unfortunately, the Romans did not make it to Ireland and Scotland. And the Germanic tribes showed barbaric brutality, especially at this time.

@@primaitalia6586 😆😆😆 You have no idea about how bad "natives" had been. So if they had been white, they needed to be civilised, but if not, they didn't? "Natives" had been worse than any of the European "barbarians" And I find it hilarious that you don't think the "natives" hadn't been genocidal

The 5th century is essentially a somber period for civilization. In the West, the Roman Empire is undergoing continuous decay, while in the East, China is mired in complete chaos due to divisions and constant invasions by nomadic barbarian kingdoms.

Very nice video. I wonder what was happening in the countryside? I suspect that there were many more tenant farmers than slave run estates. Public order and large numbers of cheap slaves are needed to keep such a system viable, and I just do not see that in this period.
@CaptainGrimes1
@CaptainGrimes1 5 ай бұрын
In the countryside you have the beginnings of feudalism, coloni i.e farmers tied to a rich landowners farm which he would farm for a small sum and protection but legally would not be allowed to move. It was cheaper to have coloni than slaves and of course the numbers of slaves dried up without any fresh imperial conquests.

The driving force behind the demise of the cities (which Honorius himself bemoaned) may have been oppressive taxation. The economy shifted to the countryside where patrons protected their clients from taxation and government overreach.

@@scorpionfiresome3834 Well I disagree on that. Most Emperor's that Wikipedia claims to have been in any shape or form from Illyricum or as "Illyrians", were not. Such as Avrelian which actually came from Moesia Inferior, Justinian the Great of whom came from Moesia Superior, Constantine the Great also came from Moesia Superior and also Galerius who was Caesar of Illyricum was from Moesia Superior. Other very important generals from Moesia were Flavius Aetius and Flavius Belisarius. Then we have Leo the Thracian, Justin and Maximinus Thrax.

Thank you for this Excellent video. So interesting that in 400AD, the city of Rome appeared healthy, while many exterior cities started to crumble. Then there are cities, such as Köln that continued after the fall of Rome, with a blend of Romano-Germanic power. This is until the Vikings sacked and burnt it, in about 881.

Nice one Sebastian. Please do a vid on Odoacer, the IMO sadly underrated and neglected King of Italy who walked so that Theodoric could run and hog all the glory. Odoacer gave Italy strong and decisive leadership, restored peace and stability, put an end to the ridiculous charade of shadow emperors, expanded his realm, retained the old Roman institutions and governing apparatus, and kept the peace with the Church. And he damn well showed greater honour and humanity toward young Romulus than Theodoric did to him. #JusticeforOdoacer #Odoacerdidnothingwrong

Many historians in the world believe that the Romans won the battle on the “Catalan Fields”, and their victory is indicated by three obvious facts: 1) The failed siege of the city of Orleans by the Huns. 2) Attila’s losses in the battle were greater, which is why he and the remnants of his army retreated from Gaul, thanks to which the spoils from the battlefield went to Aetius. Which became a symbol of his victory over Attila. Prosper, Jordanes and Gregory of Tours wrote about this. 3) The Roman vassal Merovey became the king of the Franks. And not his older brother, who was a vassal of the Huns!
