This is another video in my series “Walks in Hampshire” accompanied by my Whippet (Logan). In this episode I visit the pretty villages of Michelmersh & Mottisfont (just North of Romsey) & explore the surrounding countryside.
My 4.5 mile circular route starts at the Bear & Ragged Staff pub, just off the A3057 (where I leave my car), and I follow a single track tarmac road (part of the Monarchs Way) towards Michelmersh. After exploring the lovely St Mary's Church, I pass by some historic barns and a quite delightful thatched property before heading Northwards across open fields where I enjoy some quite stunning scenery.
I cross the A3057, past the old disused “Sprat & Winkle” railway line and over the enchanting River Test which looked wonderful in the morning sunshine. I continue on past a magnificent oak tree that has a girth of over 11 metres (!) and head on a path that takes me by the grounds of Mottisfont Abbey.
I check out St Andrews Church at Mottisfont before continuing South over the River Dun and by the earthworks of the disused Salisbury to Southampton Canal.
My journey takes me on the outskirts of the village of Kimbridge which gives me & Logan the opportunity of visiting the Kimbridge Barn Tea rooms for some light refreshment before heading back to my car.
