Walks in Shropshire: Exploring Grinshill

Grinshill is a small village and civil parish in Shropshire. The parish is one of the smallest in the district. Grinshill Hill rises above the village to 630 feet above sea level.
Harriet, Lola and I take a stroll through the village and look at some of the splendid buildings and then have a quick poke in the unusual church.

If you're going to be in the Shropshire area.... near Oswestry etc..... you really have to do the walk from Glyn Ceriog to Llangollen through the back lanes (not main road) the views along the way are simply stunning.... they often leave me in Awe.

Church of All Saints built of local red sandstone in 1840 by John Carline junior.There was a chapel of ease for Shawbury there in 1130 .Nice walk, felt I was there with you and Lola and Harriet

Super walk, thanks Richard, Harriet and Lola. My thoughts were that the red sandstone is very similar to that which is used a great deal in Ayrshire, Scotland. Must have a look at the geological map and see if it's the same.

The walk along the Montgomery Canal from St.Martins to Ellesmere provides some interesting scenery on route although it's a real long walk... 6 hours by guess... same with St.Martins to Llangollen which is the complete opposite walk in the other direction. Both are great walks. Maybe not a load of old building along the way but plenty of simple yet awesome landscapes to feast on.

That was kind of a posh lottle town wasn't it. I got a chuckle though when all of the sudden - in the middle of those large older homes- there's this little mid-century ranch looking house, but it has a red-box phone out front. Also, I am amazed at how all these towns & villages you go to just always seem to keep their doors u locked. That sure does not happen here in the US!!!

It is a tradition where possible to keep churches unlocked.

@@RichardVobes speaking as a PK (pastor's kid) this really should be the way it is. The churches door should always be open to all people. I'm sure at one time in this country we probably did the same, but sadly in todays world there would be to much theft & vandelism if our churches were left unlocked. That makes me happy that England has been able to hold on to this tradition & people still treat it w/ a reverence & respect.

Did you get the chance to explore Clive? It has it's own church and a post office until fairly recently. All saints church as I understand. I used to pass through it when I was using buses going to Shrewsbury before I could drive. If you haven't please check it out. It's just by Grinshill!
