The town is on the west coast of Wales, looking out onto Cardigan Bay, in the southern part of Snowdonia. So if you are looking for the outdoors - walking, cycling, paddleboarding, kayaking, paddling in the sea or building sandcastles then Barmouth is the perfect centre.
Barmouth's history can be explored via the Heritage Trail, and visiting the two museums. There is a wide range of independent shops, cafes. pubs and restaurants, so a day can be spent browsing, dipping in and out of shops with regular coffee stops, and maybe an ice cream on the harbour watching the boats and seagulls. From Barmouth there are many places you can go for a day out. You can explore slate mines, travel on heritage steam trains, visit castles, gardens and prehistoric monuments.

Barmouth, also known as Abermaw or Y Bermo, is a lovely place. When I was a teenager it was the cool place to be; hanging round the fair by day and sneaking into the Sandancer club at night, when we perhaps weren't quite old enough... 😅 More recently The Dragon Theatre had great Jazz gigs in the basement. Thank you for showing what a beauty of a place Barmouth is, although it's just up the coast from me, I rarely get there these days, so I really enjoyed your tour.

My main Barmouth memory from 1965 as a six-year-old is the relentless pouring rain and the lamp post that made a dent in my Dad's car when he reversed into it! I have since learned that much of Wales looks a lot better on a sunny day, and that your tours are enjoyable.

Definately!!! I haven't been for about 10 years so great to see it on a sunny day 😎 An absolute gem of a town Harlech and Barmouth are my favourite beaches in Wales. And Fairbourne is worth a visit too. Watch out for Weaver Fish which have burrow under the sand in the sea and have spines which can give you a nasty sting.you go in the sea wear something on your feet About 2 hours from where I live and the drive there is breath taking. I liked it that much I got married a few miles away in Dolgellau.

I used to go to Talybont on holiday every year as child in the 60’s and 70’s and we’d pop in to Barmouth. When I was around 14, me, my brother and cousin went there on the train as there wasn’t enough room for us in the car. The trip was stunning along part of the coast and we came over the estuary bridge into Barmouth, where we were met by Uncle & Aunt and taken to the caravan site. Kids couldn’t do that today sadly. It’s been many years since I’ve been back, but this brings back a lot of memories as lately I’ve yearned to go back and revisit.

As a North Walian myself, I'm a little ashamed to say I had no idea Barmouth was this nice! I went there a couple of times as a kid for days at the beach, but I'm thinking we couldn't have strayed too far from the vicinity of the train station. The actual town and harbour is lovely!

Wonderful video. I first came to Barmouth in 1959 when I was 5 years old on the train from Walsall, West Midlands. I remember getting off the train at Tal-y-bont Halt. We walked down the narrow stonewalled lane to a caravan site located just behind the beach. I have been in love with the area ever since and now have my own caravan located just off that lane I walked down those many years ago. Happy, happy sunfilled days.

I used to go to that caravan park every yr from 1958 to the mid 60's John, do you remember the big grey horse that used to look over the wall in case we had a carrot or apple to give it and the little rubber shoes we wore on the stoney beach. Happy times never forgotten.😊

Hi Tim. My husband and I got married in Ty'r Graig castle in Barmouth. It over looks that beautiful beach. And when our eldest daughter was young (she's got a newborn son herself now) we used to spend hours and hours at the harbour crabbing. It's just an absolutely blissful place to be/visit with some gorgeous restaurants. And as long as you have the weather for it it makes you believe you are abroad ❤

I absolutely love Barmouth, I visited a couple of times last year with my parents and my 3 kids. The eldest 2 are in their mid to late teens and unfortunately, they complain when I tell them that we are going to Barmouth again. They get bored easily, it's a shame they don't enjoy the simple things in life. I love walking around the little town, looking in all the shops and restaurants/cafes and just sitting by the beach. I would love to live there.

Barmouth was the last holiday I went on with my parents in about 1973. We stayed in the Min Y Mor hotel right next to the beach. Bombed across in my Dad's maroon Ford Anglia at night. Remember going through Corby and seeing the Iron Foundry in action. It took 10 hours to get there from Caister. Dad was concerned about negotiating 1 in 4 hills without the brakes failing or the clutch burning out. Spent many days on that lovely beach and watching the sun going down over the sea. Made 2 friends who liked Footy and Tennis, Belinda from Alveston & Richard from Dursley. After Mum passed in 2015 to join Dad, I returned with my wife in 2016. The hotel is still there and has been extended. Thanks Tim for reminding me of a brilliant holiday and great memories.

Never been. It looks lovely. It’s quite old-fashioned but with the new eateries and statues. Quaint. Far less brash than some of the other Welsh resorts. Nice place to go for the day or the weekend in good weather. What’s amazing is that there’s no plastic waste on the beach. Railway station entrance needs a lick of paint!

I've been to Barmouth yearly ever since I was a kid. It was our go to holiday home when we needed to get away from everything. We stop at Barmouth bay holiday park further down the coast. Surprisingly it's always pretty quiet and peaceful. Going for evening walks on the beach and watching the sunset with my family was always my favourite thing. Furthermore you just can't beat freshly made doughnuts on the coast. This year I turn 18 and we just went last Easter. Time flies way too fast. Now I'm about to take my a level exams next week and hopefully go to University. No matter what happens this will always be my happy place and seeing this video makes me miss it already. Can't wait to go back next year and sit for hours watching the tides.

Barmouth is my favourite seaside town, I have been going there for 40 years and I have many fond family memories of the town by the sea, watching my children grow up, I never ever get tired of it. The very best place for a children's summer holiday, there's just everything there that you will need and great safe beaches for the children. The beach at Dyffryn Arduddwy , a small village on the road out of Barmouth towards Harlech is an absolute gem, fabulous for children , and you can park your car within 100 yards of the beach. Lots of rabbits in the sandunes! A great video Tim, but I will add a little additional attraction which I would suggest you visit which most visitors are unaware of. Walking down Barmouth high street take one of the back streets, and find Gloddfa Road, it's very steep, so beware if you have a heart condition, after about 100 yards you will start to see the wonderful views over Barmouth Bay, and on the right hand side look for a gate, and here I plagiarise from someone else's observations; Quote ' On the slopes of Dinas Olau above Barmouth is a small walled area. Known as the Frenchman's Grave, this is the burial place and memorial of Auguste Guyard, a French philosopher who came to Barmouth after fleeing from the Siege of Paris. On the wall is a plaque which says: Here lies a sower who Sowed right up to the grade, Truth, goodness and beauty, with idolatry, Through a thousand battles of the pen and of the hands. Such works in this world are not compensated for. The Frenchman's Grave is a good vantage point for views over the harbour, Mawddach Estuary and down the coast towards Fairbourne.' Unquote. Everytime I visit Barmouth I have to go there, and each time the climb is harder, but well worth it. Enjoy.

I have been going to Barmouth as a child since 1967. My parents owned and house just outside Barmouth and my Dad's side of family can trace his family back to the area from 1596. His GGG Granddad lived in a house in Harlech when the castle was occupied! Even now I still own a holiday home there and go back and forth nearly every two or so months to get from London. It's not so much the Barmouth, but the area. Also due to the position of Barmouth sandwiched between the sea, The Mawddach and hills behind it, it has remained pretty much as it was since 1960s! I have photos of Barmouth that my parents took in the 1960's and they are virtually identical to now albeit new cars and plastic windows. That's partly the allure! It never changes....

I go to Barmouth every year for the holidays and stay a week in the sunny sands caravan park I totally agree you feel like you’re abroad when you’re there with nice weather I go very often because it’s so gorgeous and me and my family love it there. Yes the water is super clear isn’t it but you can never beat the views in the holiday park where we go too . Great vlog pal ! 😃

Wow! This looks like a lovely place. Went there as a child with my parents but remember nothing about it. I'd definitely visit here for a long weekend if I wasn't on the other side of the Atlantic ocean.
