This is brilliant - all the other videos on straightening walls are demonstrated on walls that are accessible from both sides. This video is great because it shows how to do it when only one side of the framing is accessible. Answers a lot of my questions so thanks for taking the time to put this together.

You make it so simple. This is just what I needed. My home is 105 years old and no walls are straight. I have a planer and a level, so wish me luck.

Great advice James, good tips as always, there are always different ways to achieve the same result and your way is excellent, I normally do the short plane strokes first then the last one right across the affected area, that way its all left smooth. keep up the good work buddy, cheers.

That`s perfect! I have exactly the same problem. But the difference is- the wall you have fixed in your video in our situation a common for two bathrooms A couple of new studs are slightly bent. I can fix it like you did from this side, but what do I have to do from the opposite side where we have relatively dents? Thank you

first thing to do is make absolutely sure there are no nails or screws before you take the planner to those studs :)

Nice. Can you lay the boards horizontally if you've got an old fked up lath and plaster Stud wall where all the studs are wonky and bent!? They also have cross braces too. The boards won't fall on the studs when laid vertically? Or should I attach them vertically and cut to size (stud)? Thanks

Great tips, James! What would you do if that same stud was concave and left you with too much of a hollow?
@OurBuild
@OurBuild 8 жыл бұрын
+Olly Parry-Jones Thank's Olly, I would normally make a cut halfway up the stud about 3/4 into the depth of it and then pull it out and splice a new piece of timber over the cut. We call the technique crippling a stud.

Hi James Thanks for the knowledge! Do you generally straighten alll the walls inside? Or just bathroom for tiles.
@OurBuild

Thanks Yushin Kim, yes all walls on the house would get straightened, especially down long hallways where it is easy to see imperfections.

Hey Jason, sorry for the late reply, it was a 2.1mtr level. You can pick up aluminium straight edges that are also handy for straightening frames as well.

some times you can cut across a stud with a saw. then drive a wedge in the cut. it's hard to explain things on here. lol. I don't know if you can understand my jibber jabber or not.

+Zach Miller Hey Zach! Yeah we call it crippling the studs, I made a quick mention of it, but could not demonstrate on this one as the plaster was on the other side of the wall. How's business in the States, plenty on?

Not a dig at your vide but its atrocious the size I see for bathrooms in modern homes; we seem to forget that when you put a house-footprint down thats crippled soil; especially slab on grade. Wish we were more considerate of land resources.
