How would you take off just the handle on the old faucet?

Thank you for being so detailed. I am a 40 yr young woman with no experience in homeowner maintenance but this pandemic is financially draining and I cannot afford to pay someone to fix my sink. We live in an old house 80+ years old. It has an old leaky faucet that I have been putting off for weeks. I have never changed a "wall faucet" before. Thanks to this old video I was able to. I upgrade the faucet to a nice one. It didn't take me long at all. No more leaks and most importantly wifey loves it. She says she has more room now for the big soup pots. Thanks for showing every step in detail. I noticed that you wound the Teflon tape in clockwise direction on the nipple coming out of the wall. All the videos on KZfaq explain that to be the correct way. Surprisingly the manual tells to wind it in anti-clock wise direction, Wonder whether they made a mistake in the manual! Manual says - Wrap thread sealant tape (not included) around the stub out pipe threads (1) extending from the wall in a counterclockwise direction, as shown.

Just replaced my kitchen faucet too.. but too bad, later I found I had a leak. I think my issue is that both my stub outs from the wall that protrudes through my cast iron sink, the threads on them was basically damaged already. My cold water line started to leak, but I didnt notice the leak because its actually from behind the sink wall, and between the drywall.

That sounds very unfortunate. It might be time to have a plumber open up the drywall and replace the pipes with the damaged threads

Great video. Very informative. Thank you! Now, I shall attempt to replace my wall mount kitchen sink. Wish me luck! One question: I've read some places to use silicon sealant, which I didn't see you do. Why would I need sealant?

You can use sealant to seal the base of the pipe and the wall so that overtime water will not go through and cause damage. I did not seal mine in this particular video since I was going to re-apply caulking on both the sink and new faucet at a later time. Thanks for pointing it out though :)

If the pipes going into the wall are beyond repair after taking off the old faucet, is there an easy way to replace the pipes that go into the wall? Working on a house built in the late 40s and not sure if these pipes are screwed into the wall at an L angled fixture or if they bent them into place back in the day. The whole kitchen needs a redo at some point but the kitchen sink is unusable currently due to both knobs being completely warn off.

There really is no easy way... You will need a pro plumber to remove the drywall and replace the piping behind the wall

This is a pretty old house, and has gone through a few hands before it was mine. I will definitely check to make sure it's GFI, thanks for pointing that out!
