2" clears the dogs! That's my guess. I grew up with a Lane sawmill in the back yard (in Maine), very similar to yours, as well as two Ford tractors from 1956 and '58. I wish I still had them all today. This video brings back lots of good memories.

There was a circle saw mill on our farm in 1971. It was an International Gas Engine. Had no muffler. Very loud. Had a edger that ran with a flat belt at the same time the cutting was going on. The bark edge boards were edged right off the saw. Lumber and ties were stacked by hand. They loaded the lumber and ties onto a bob truck to be hauled away. They had a team of mules and a wagon to move logs to the logs roads they cut. I'm about to build my band sawmill shed in the same location. Out in the woods plenty of room for sawdust and slabs without having to be moved away from the basic sawmill sight. I enjoy all the videos and content you make. Happy 4th tomorrow!!!!

I have been a carpenter my whole life and live in a 95 year old house that was built with lumber from this property not by use but a family member of the people we bought from says that the lumber was milled on and old circle mill. We bought an LT35 and finally got to the house and are cutting our own lumber to build a new house . I would love to own a circle mill it just amazing to think circle mills made America

Your mill isn’t too far from the hardwood mill I grew up in. Ala Oak Flooring mill in Guin, AL. Daddy started it in 1956. I am the fourth generation in my family to sawmill. We had, after the tornado in ‘74, a 36” Precision rosser head debarker, a 54” circular mill, Corinth 36” carriage, 54” McDonough line bar re-saw, Crosley edger & homemade trimmer. A good day was 25,000 bd ft. I stated working there in ‘68 when I was 12 during summers. I can absolutely relate to your mill there. Used to buy tiesiding from a Mr Evans from Tremont, MS who had a mill like yours. It’s hard work but very gratifying. Keep up the good work! I enjoy the videos and esp the circle mill aspect. I would love to see more action on the circle sawmill. I watch two other sawmill channels, both circular sawmills. Yours is the only bandsaw mill I watch, mostly because I came a heartbeat away from buying my own LT40, but in the end decided against the sawmill life. So, I watch it for the nostalgia it brings to me.

I like to hear your old circle saw mill run. My dad owned one very much like it. He had 5 men working at it. The sawyer had a helper to turn the logs. The edger was run by the engine that turned the big saw. There were two men "tailing" the edger. We burnt the slabs or some times we'd cut them for fire wood and strips from the edger. The power unit was a 4 cylinder TD14 international, I love to hear your old Detroit.

I scrolled through the comments saw one right answer; It's hard on the teeth when you saw the dogs off. I'm 65 grew up on one of them in the 60's and 70.s. Nice looking mill, In the southern states you see a lot of that drag chain to keep the sawdust away our mill had a sawdust blower on it and no you did not play on the sawdust pile when the mill was running. I've seen a lot of different drives for the carriage. and a lot of different says to reset the carriage but that is the first time I have seen a coil spring to pull the bunks back.

My brother-in-law Built his daughter a rolling top desk out of red Oak lumber he bought from a local sawmill that had a half a load of semi-truck refused from to be for flooring in Quarter sawn red oak. Had blemishes that could be cut out in a 4-foot-long boards. We built it with a edger and planer I already had. Once built he took it to his beginning of HIS wood shop and he applied stain and poli finish. He recently passed away and his daughter (some 30 years) later gave it to her son to have a memory of his grandfather.

The way you asked the question, makes me th8nk there is another reason, but I would say the reason for leaving the last board at 2" would be to the hold downs something to bite into. An inch and a half would be too close to the blade.

to run the circular saw cheaply on a big turbo with a small exhaust housing so the setting speed of the turbo is high the speed of the engine not high use an intercooler from an old truck and water injection it is set like this open until the engine stops then screw in on the nozzle which is adjustable, example at 12 o'clock is when the engine gets too much water, screw in the throttle to 10 o'clock use pressure bell electric opens at half the excess pressure which is about 1-2.5 bar at the engine the revolution you saw the logs this reduces fuel costs by at least 45 percent and increases the horsepower by 80 percent with this you can run the engine with smaller nozzles and a much cleaner engine the exhaust pipe must be at least 68mm inside for the right resistance in the exhaust pipe

raise the whole saw 120cm so everything is at least 80cm above the minimum height - that's the level the water has today it should be 15cm below the feet so all the water can be drained out over the forest the field below and you will avoid all these problems
