@@j.t.cooper2963 I think it's excellent oil for the money when used in the proper application and changed when it's supposed to be. I ran it for 80,000+ miles in my sister's 2013 Ford Edge. It always came out pretty clean and all of it came out. That vehicle did a lot of college tour trips and mixed driving. My sister traded it in back in maybe 2018 or so for an Equinox. I then ran ST in that for almost 100k that she had it (more college trips and moving from NJ to NC). She just traded it last year on a preowned Audi. Now she gets her oil changed since I don't live nearby anymore. LOL. One time I showed up just for a visit (she lived about an hour away) and she said, "Thank goodness you're hear, the fridge stopped working". I always carry tools with me and I kept tools at her house. I had the machine figured out in 15 minutes. I stayed over (long weekend) and when morning hit, I made a phone call with the part # for the part and it took longer to go get it than to fix the machine. LOL.

I use Castrol Edge High Mileage Full Synthetic 10w30 and the analysis numbers seem better than the Pennzoil. My car is an older car. It's a 2001 with 326,000 miles. I change the oil every 5000 miles. I have used Castrol since I started driving at 16 years old and I'm 48 now. If I was going to change it would definitely be Pennzoil but I'm sticking with the Castrol. Good video

My daily is a Camry and I also drive a 14 Expedition. During beer flu I put but around 5000 on it in one year. As long as the Supertech is the full synthetic and is Dexos approved I usually use it because it is some much more cost effective. I put the savings into a synthetic media filter (won’t say brand because I don’t want a flame war). With 5 cars to maintain at my house I have to be smart with the money. Having said that I do prefer the castrol 0-20 high mileage in the 14 Corolla.

Great video. Waiting for 5W-30 full synthetic Pennzoil Ultra vs Valvoline Extended Protection matchup. Not being critical here, just my two cents while watching your video. When comparing two oil data sheets, overlay one sheet onto the other so that the columns are closer together/next to each other. By doing this your hand isn’t moving as much back and forth, the camera stays stationary and all columns will be in the same view. Have a great day and love your videos.

A few years ago I did a little research on different oils and for the price compared to the ingredients in the different oils I went with the SuperTech 5w30 full synthetic. I guess according to these tests the SuperTech is still right up there. I don't run any more than 5000 miles but usually around 4000. I've never been a pennzoil fan but this shows me that pennzoil may have finally improved their oil.

Pennzoil oil was a Pennsylvanian crude wax based oil, it was a horrible oil that gummed up your engine, so was Valvoline and Quaker State. Shell Oil purchased both Pennzoil and Quaker State and changed both formulas to asphalt based oil which was much better. Of course today we have synthetic oil which is better yet.

Does it really matter which full synthetic oil you use? As long as you change it every 5k miles or 6 months, use the correct viscosity, and you don’t drive it like a race car. I imagine there is a point of diminishing returns. Maybe the extra additives would let you go over 5k mile intervals. But if you’re changing it at 5k regardless, then it doesn’t matter. Similar to how some people filter their city water with activated carbon, some use reverse osmosis, and some just drink the city treated tap water unfiltered. And they probably all live to the same age.

I've always felt Warren oils are quite good for the money. Good to put real numbers on it. I use whichever full synthetic happens to be on sale at Meijer or Walmart brand (both Warren) in my 30 year old Lincoln and it works just fine. Any off the shelf oil is so much higher quality then what was available back then! On the other hand the 5 year old car I bought new and is powered by a little 1.0L ecoboost engine - that gets the fancy name brand oil. Recently (like 2 years ago maybe???) Ford updated their Motorcraft full synthetic to the newest ILSAC GF-6 specifications and thus I simply use that plus a Motorcraft filter. (edit: prior to that it was rather difficult to find the correct oil which met the Ford specification - even Ford didn't stock any!) Keeps it simple and I change every 5k miles. Motor I'm sure will last forever. It really is that simple. Currently that car is just shy of 50k miles and looking at the valve train through oil filler everything is still silver inside. Minimal to no varnish and definitely no sludge buildup. 2nd edit: I suppose I should put my 2 cents in about the other brands in the video. I never liked Mobil 1 all that much. I've seen a lot of independent testing where it didn't do so great. The Pennzoil brand on the other hand has great quality. Shell (makes Pennzoil) is essentially #1 for industrial lubricants. They make everything from motor oils to gearbox oils to synthetic silicone grease. All fantastic top shelf stuff! Also helps my opinion because they have a couple of large factories still operating in the Ohio River Valley rust belt near where I grew up. A bit of hometown pride you might say.

Pennzoil ultra platinum is just a really good oil for the money usually. I get 5W-30 5 qts. for about $30-$35 from NAPA or Amazon for my DI 2.5T Mazda since it seems to maintain it's viscosity very well over the OCI and prevents LSPI. For some reason lately it has been more difficult to get regular pennzoil platinum and ultra platinum in a few viscosities for their normal good price, but I assume there is just a supply shortage for some reason.

I wouldn't run any oil to 10k. I think you said it well, it's a 5k oil which is what most folks can and should do. Use a good quality filter, make sure it meets/exceeds the requirements of the vehicle you're using it in and change it as you should. With that a good engine design should last a long time. I'd roll with the full synthetic 5W30 which is what I use. It's now the "10,000 mile" formula. I wouldn't use that anyway. I don't even let my OCI get below 50% or so. Oil and filters are cheaper than replacing engines. Prior to ST being Dexos 1 certified, I was using QS Ultimate Durability and it was maybe $22 at WM for a 5 quart jug.

I’ve used super tech full synthetic for 10 years in all my vehicles and the only complaint is now in 2024 it’s about the same price as Quaker state full synthetic .It cost me $18.98 for 5 quart jug of 0w20 full synthetic and there’s Quaker atate and valvoline all full synthetics for just $3 more.But I keep buying super tech and it says 10,000 miles but I change around 6000 miles.i use it in 3 vehicles .

Can you do a comparison of after 5k miles. It's nice to see all the pre-use results, but post use is really what needs to be evaluated
@davidlong1786
@davidlong1786 Жыл бұрын
To do that you would have to use two different oils in the same engine, one at a time or the results would be skewed due to how two different engines would contaminate the oil.
@scottr4086

@@davidlong1786 i think if you ran 2 oil changes the second oil change would be good enough to test. Unless you have a zillion dollars testing facility, it wouldn't be scientifically accurate no matter how you did it. I don't think that much accuracy is needed for this type of testing
@FordBossMe

Actually it's not it is the pre-oil use because each engine is built differently and they are taking care of differently so virgin analysis is actually more important to be honest with you used analysis may be more important to figure out what's going on with your particular engine and how you're taking care of it but me doing a used analysis would not actually do anything for the rest of you in the grand scheme of things it would just show you how my particular vehicle is running

Is there any point in running a full synthetic oil if you’re going to change it every 3,000-5,000 miles regardless?
@FordBossMe
@FordBossMe Жыл бұрын
Yeah the service mileage never changed it was just oil companies adding more additive to oil and coming up with better base stocks and then telling people they can run longer which was a complete myth so no matter if it was conventional or if it was synthetic it's still barely changed and I don't know why people want to believe that just because it's conventional or synthetic that means you can go longer like what you said here that doesn't make any sense to me because maintenance is key oil is cheap engines are not and when you start treating your vehicle that way it's going to actually respect you even more so yes I'm going to run good quality oil and I'm going to change it by 5,000 MI and if your mindset is any different than that well then you don't have the respect for the machine that you're running

It's a decent oil especially for the price, I run the Dexos2 5W30 in my Buick over the AC Delco Stealership oil that I get for free ,but it's drum 🛢 oil & not full synthetic, rather spend the $20 bucks & use a better oil, I only use it for about 5 k to 6 k miles & filter it with a AC Delco UPF63R gold filters as the 3.6 tends to be a sooty engine

5 speed manual, I'm on my second Fiesta, had 196k on the 13 when a deer ran into it🤬 my current 14 is @191k and still runs like a top. You really have to be light on the go pedal to get 40mpg but 35 with a semi aggressive style is always achievable.

bottom line I would never wait that long to change my oil. I drive at most 7000 miles per year. I try to change every 3000 miles at most. But some of my vehicles get such low mileage that i have to change them with fewer miles because I always hear it's not good to let them sit more than a year even if not driven at all.
