I love your videos and the quality and down home feel that you inspire in your journey on the making of these exquisite boards. There are several people that I follow but none of those people lure you in like you could sit out there relax have a cup of coffee go to the shop and enjoy a day of dust. I look forward to your videos, keep up the good work.

Thanks Matt! The barn/shop has been a great place to dig through some new ideas and kick up some sawdust! I often wonder how may different ways can you make cutting boards elegant and interesting, and I think there is no end...... so the journey continues. 🙌

This is the 2nd of your video's I've watched so far. I like the way you spend the time to make a simple cutting board into a work of art. So many are all about just slamming one together and explain how you can make money by selling it. You, on the other hand show us the "hows" & "whys" of designing a piece of useful art. I thank you for that.

I love your workshop and the fact it's out in the woods. I get the same feeling when you opened your workshop doors as when I would watch falling snow from my couch, all warm and comfy and with a nice cup of coffee/cocoa. Could you answer this: how much does wood move in an end grain board? Thickness should be mostly constant, but there are so many layers to this and I'm interested how much do length and width change.

Nice work! The sapwood is supposed to have more moisture and also is softer than heartwood. Doesn’t this compromise the longevity of the board ?
@thewoodplank4376
@thewoodplank4376 Жыл бұрын
If the wood is dried properly, the moisture should be consistent throughout the sapwood and heartwood. The heartwood may be a touch harder but if your working with hardwoods, using sapwood its not going to be an issue.

Do you have the issue that after you raise the grain with water and do a final sand, oil and wax...that after the first few uses, the board gets fuzzy again? is there any way to keep it smoother for longer? or is just the fact that its getting wet, the grain will raise
@thewoodplank4376
@thewoodplank4376 2 жыл бұрын
Try raising the grain a second time, then add your oil and wax. I don't normally have this issue come up, but if it did I would use a fine steel wool pad and wax and smooth the board back out.
