We start construction on our road to the house site finally with the RK24 tractor. Since we have an abundance of shake on the property, we go looking for a new spot to unearth some and we find the mother lode. I see many hours being put on the RK24 hauling the rock and digging out the driveway with the backhoe and box blade. We also take some time and give our water tank some much needed attention. Work is done to the pressure tank to get it ready for a frost proof closet inside our self built shed.

Greetings from the BIG SKY. You've got a perfect place to make dirt. As you can see, it forms rather quickly.

That backhoe has to be the best investment for your property. I think the sawmill would be a close second. Just keep living the dream and filming it for us to enjoy. ☺

John, in fact, you have exactly the tool you need for that fitting. It's known as "water pump pliers." Also known as "arc joint pliers" or probably most well known by their manufacturer's name "Channel Locks."

I noticed the PEX for outside from the valve goes uphill to the spigot. If it goes down from the cutoff valve it will drain easier and be less likely to freeze. Maybe not an issue with the tiny insulated “water closet” you’ve put around your setup. Yes, it is definitely more relaxing to critique your work than doing my own! John and Meg, you are doing a great job on the wide variety of projects, and I appreciate that you’re sharing it with me.

That is a good point, Kevin. It didn't give us an issue yet, but we could certainly change it if needed. We are so glad you are enjoying a little look into our projects. Thanks for you kind words. :) - Meg

When cold weather comes, and you close the valve for the outside spigot, be sure to open the outside spigot so IF it freezes, the spigot dies not get damaged.

Just wanted to say John i really enjoy following your channel. It's like everyday is an adventure. Love what you and Meg are doing with your property. And Meg, my wife and I have 13 acres in West Virginia and in the last 35 years I've seen maybe 5 Black Bears. Each time they were running to get away from us. Thats not to say I don't fear nor have respect for them. I leave them be and, so far they haven't been a problem. We have more problems with Coyotes than the bears. Looking forward to your next post.

Thank you very much, Dean! We are enjoying our adventure thoroughly. I do hope the lumber prices come down soon so we can get the house build going, but until then, many adventures and projects at hand. I respect the bears too. I teach my kids to live by one rule with wildlife... If you leave THEM alone, they'll leave YOU alone. And you're right about the coyotes. They howl often but are very elusive.

You need to get some dynamite to break up that rock. Come to think of it dynamite would help with a few of your jobs.

Maintaining roads with a box scrape is easier when stone is crushed all about the same size, larger irregular stones drag up other smaller stone and sediment. Or maybe the shale is just a base for future stone. You guys are working really hard hope all goes well!

The stainless steel coupler as you called it is actually called a nipple, a coupling has the threads on the inside.

It is always best to use brass or stainless steel nipples and couplings and other fittings for water lines in places where that you need rigid solid piping . Galvanized steel pipe fittings will eventually corrode and build up on the inside and stop the galvanized pipe or fittings up over time . The brass or stainless steel nipples and couplings and reducer bushings and other fittings cost more, but work much better in the long run . The road is starting to take shape and it's great to find the seams( the over all thickness of that type of rock in the hill ) of rock, the vanes are the individual smaller layers of rock that break apart in flat pieces, I reckon . You all are slowly moving forward, everything takes time and work . I will see you all later, so be careful and stay safe and keep on building more of the road . As always, Jeffrey !!!

You have a lot right and you have some things wrong. I think you might change, too, so I’ll speak up. I had a 300 acre timber place and was doing a lot of work that you’re doing. I learned my grandfather. What he taught was using branches to build brush piles for smaller animals like rabbits and quail and small rodents that owls need to get by on for food. Owls may sit over these piles and lurk, but they’re friendly to people pretty much and add a lot to a home location. Throw the wood chipper away. The brush piles eventually rot away and have made great mulch on the ground for your tractor bucket. I love your tractor. I had a large ATV with a bucket.

I have an area on the property exactly for that purpose. Lots of little critters always scatter when I add more to the pile. I have hopes it will be an epic compost pile one day just by leaving it alone.

The wrench your needing for pipe fittings is simply called a pipe wrench . Numerous sizes to do from 1/8" to12" pipe . Rigid brand is the best . For everyday use buy the aluminum ones ...

Meg, of course you are doing a good job! Remember, you don't have to out run a bear, you just have to outrun Jon. 🤡 Bears are cool, and you will be fine.

Jon the civil engineer, your business card is getting really really long 🤪 looks so satisfying to get that road in shape if only 100 yards at a time. Wood chips and grass great! Any chicken drippings plans soon?

Hey Adam! It's VERY satisfying. Been thinking about this for a long time. It's probably going to be a good 1800 ft total. Having fun and putting the hours on that tractor 💪 Chickens for sure, but not until the house is done. Meg and I love the thought of being self sufficient. We're trying to learn what works in the garden in the meantime and that's satisfying our homestead lifestyle.

Just wondering I'm now up to video 49 wondering why did you build such a fantastic well made shed but your house is going to be at the top of your land obviously you may mention this in upcoming videos?
@WalnutsandWineberries
@WalnutsandWineberries Жыл бұрын
We needed a shelter for the pressure tank for the water. Was the primary reason for the shed. We will be building another one at the top by the house as well. Thanks for watching. ☺️

@@WalnutsandWineberries I see now why you wanted the piranha bar earlier rather than later! It would have been handy on that hill! The driveway through the woods is coming to fruition! I'm amazed at how much work these tractors can do! Are you going crown the center of the road or have the whole road angle slighly down towards the hill?

What’s the status of your tooth bar? And I’m sorry but due to my OCD I have to mention the front tires on the tractor are on the wrong sides. All wheel and tire assemblies I’ve worked within my 46 years as a mechanic the valve stems go on the outside when mounting them on a axle. If you intended to mount them the way they are for more stability they make hub extenders for doing that. I own the exact tractor you have and its a great machine. I’m not wanting you to think I’m complaining on how you maintain your equipment just my OCD talking. Your property looks better with every video.

Hi Thomas, good to hear from you. The tooth bar is on order and they had a message saying it would be 4 to 6 weeks before it ships. I could really use it right now. Regarding the valve stems, I thought it was strange too when I bought the tractor, but that's the way I got it, so I kept it that way. It is a little annoying managing the air pressure from the inside. There's some interesting discussion about this online when I googled it. Seems to be a debate topic. I don't know, tractor runs and performs well for me.
