The primary reason for building the shed was to house the pressure tank for our water supply. In this episode we frame and enclose a structure around the tank. First we source the wood from the property and use our Harbor Freight sawmill to cut the wood down to useable pieces. To prevent the pipes or pressure tank from freezing we add R-13 insulation to the frame. To finish up the structure we put up horizontal siding and a removable front panel. We can see the light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to finishing up the last items on the shed.
We also address a problem Jon is having working solo on his RK24 tractor in this episode, maybe you have a solution.
Jon shows his repurposing skills by creating a pool skimmer from broken items around the shed.

I'd have insulated the whole shed, installed a hot water tank, washer, dryer, laundry tub, and maybe an improvised shower. Camper living is fun but it gets old quick..

Jon, when you get tired of spinning the wing nuts on your tank cubby, you can replace them with two hinges and a hasp.

Meg, pull the collar back when you put those air fittings together and it will be much easier for you to do. Yes, you are doing it wrong by not pulling the lock collar back. You're fighting the lock.
@firstmkb

Meg, if you pull back the release collar as John suggested, I really don’t think you’ll struggle. If you do still have trouble, lower the air pressure in the line or release it altogether. These are kind of things nobody tells you (or me) but you would eventually figure out. BTW, I thought using your boot as a stop was clever!

John, next time you need to do something like the water enclosure you can get threaded inserts to bolt the door to the enclosure. You just need an Allen wrench to screw the insert into the wood enclosure and then you can screw the bolt into the insert. works great and you end up just having the bolt head showing.

John, If you hinge the top and front of the pump walls so you can fold the up so the top will latch to the wall, and the front will just fold away it access to the tank and filter. you can use a corner hasp or a screen door hook to latch it together.
@WalnutsandWineberries

Thanks for the idea, Carl. Meg had a hinge idea too but I dismissed it because I was afraid it would interfere with the wall or floor and scrape its way open, being so heavy. I'll probably reassess if I find myself opening and closing this thing a lot. I do need regular access to clean the sediment filter every 45 days or so. Thanks for posting your thoughts! 👍

@@WalnutsandWineberries Another idea…. Put a pair of hasps on the top of the door to hold it to the box. The bottom doesn’t need to be secured, because the weight will keep it there. I’d add a couple of cabinet door handles or wood pulls, and be able to remove the whole thing in 10 seconds. Why can I get simple ideas for you, but I over-think my own projects?

Jon, obviously you already understand the issue. The second hydraulic circuit is retaining a good deal of pressure that prevents the connector from retracting easily to accept the mating connector. Just thinking out loud, the next time you wish to remove the grapple, put a block of wood to hold the upper arm about 50% open, turn off RICKY, push third function button and rotate the joystick in a few circles. Then disconnect the hoses. The next time you are attaching the third function lines and one of them is not cooperating, try moving the upper grapple arm up or down a bit (remove the block of wood). This might allow enough hydraulic fluid movement to relieve some pressure. Purely conjecture, but hey, it might help.

You have to make sure that you bleed all of the pressure off of the tractor before disconnecting the bucket hydraulic hoses. That can and will happen on any tractor

Hi Buy a inexpensive G clamp. Weld fork like pieces of metal on both ends. Open it up put a fork on each side after you line the connection up. Squeeze the clamp until locked. Not my idea, Andrew Camarata, built one, instead of paying lots of dollars for a single use tool.

As you talk about mixing concrete in this video I've noticed a lot of people making videos that they and you fill your mixer up then switch it on. Thats the fastest way to burn your motor out. Start your mixer empty then add your mix, that way the motor does not struggle to turn when you switch it on.

Clamp the button, tie a string or bungee cord to the joystick with other end on a stationary object to its right, and go connect the hoses with both hands. Then go back and unclamp, and un tie joystick.

I do not have the 3rd function on my tractor yet, but if I rotate the load lever in circles it relieves the pressure. So I would think if you pressed the switch, rotate in circles it would relieve the pressure the same. Purely a guess though!

Totally unacceptable John, now your gonna have to go buy another tractor. I'm going to give this a try. I bought a a new J.D.3025 loader tractor in 2018. If I can get my wife interested in driving it, I'll gladly let her have it and go get me different color one. I'm kinda interested in a RK 25. Watching you work with yours, I think it'd be all the tractor i would ever need. You gotta think outside the box buddy. That Meg is a good girl, just imagine what you and her could do with two tractors.

Now you're talking my language, Dean! Haha! I'd opt to get a tracked skid steer. My dream would be a Takeuchi TL8 and Meg can have Ricky (or has that already happened without me realizing it?). The RK25 looks really nice. The bucket is bigger and the loader is stronger than the RK24, but I am very content and happy with the RK24. Believe it or not, I've never used the PTO on it yet.

You're comparing linear lumber to finished lumber. Rough cut all lumer is exactly what it says it is. A 2x4 measures 2x4 inches, finished it measurs 1.5 x 3.5. That is the allowance for finish planeing the rough cut to linear dimensions. I have no idea who decided what those dimensions would be. LOL I would have much rather the finished product be what it says it is. That's a carriage bolt just so you know.

does just pushing the button in allow it to be connected or does it have to be pressed in AND the lever be moved to the right? If it just needs pressed in, could you use a zip tie that you leave on and just slide it it up to the handle when needed?
@WalnutsandWineberries
@WalnutsandWineberries 2 жыл бұрын
It's the doubly whammy, Bryce. Button pressed and the handle to one side (usually the right). I think this opens the diverter valve, allowing trapped pressure to return back to the reservoir as you engage the quick connect. Frustrating it is.

You might consider putting some type of a protective cover on the ends of those bolts where the wing nuts are. Otherwise, someone is going to bump into those on the corner and knock the hide off an arm, ankle or leg. Owweez!

Key on engine off, toggle switch a few times doesn’t help? Lookup Saturn blocks for pressure relief? A couple bars (dunno how to describe) on both fitting ends will help squeeze together? Kinda like Meg with the air stapler 😜
@adamroof9460

Or the check valve on wrong fitting? Something blocking the return line at the valve or Lines reversed.

Saturn blocks look interesting. Wish mine had that feature. There are also "connect under pressure" quick connects, but I cheaped out on the flat face 1/2 inch connectors I got. Now I'm paying for it. Also, I'll try the key on accessory position without the engine on and move the stick around a bit. May have tried that already, but I'm going to try all these suggestions from you guys. Thanks Adam!

@@WalnutsandWineberries just watched episode 18 again... i mean there is a 50% chance lines reversed, not letting pressure out to the return line. Would still work reversed. maybe the last last resort, try swapping disconnects? I couldnt see the valve close enough but marked T should be return to tank, check that the grapple line matches? single action cylinder so may jus not matter on the grapple, but the Besko FD diverter might. Engine off you should lose pressure back to tank... right?? LOL Good Luck with this!!

I always put mine in the float position and they both lock easily as your first connector. I had the same problem at times. Then accidentally I forgot one day it was in float position and it both connectors clicked so easily. I’ve been doing it since. Hope this helps. My RK24 I named Sherman because it’s a lil tank. And yes people the other channel named his RK the same but he is now sponsored by the orange tractor people.

Definitely trying this asap. Is it as simple as putting it in float, turning off the tractor and then connecting the grapple?
