Just checking out some of your older vids, nice review. Not bad for the price. Really looking into getting 3 or two coaches

Kris this must be your old layout, I picked up these cars from OVR, total of seven cars ,plan to add the detail kit and lighting kit , nice cars for the price

Bought mine 2003 ish santa fe road and i like them as not into scratch building coaches. For the money to avg rail fan these pieces do the job perfectly. I've seen the $80.00 plus from Rapido a river in Italia and yes they are really nice however they are twice the price You Get What You Pay For - Cheap Is Dear these statement's are very true with everything in life, every decision in life has a cost. You did a good job with video and you said everything well. Good Job !!!

Thanks Mark. In most cases I say : cheap trains arnt good, good trains arnt cheap... but to me these are a happy medium. at one point I had about 18 of these cars total. sold off all of them to help fund my railroad expansion. Looking to pick up a few more in the future. Thank you for watching. -Kris

hi Kris... great over view of these passenger cars... i just watched a video by Graham Foulston where he showed how to fully detail the interior of a passenger car.. i think you should watch it.. might give some ideas.. thanks for sharing... vinny

bnsf6951 Thanks Vinny that is a great idea. Ill see what I can come up with. I have already started ordering ppl to put in the cars and on my layout as well. -Kris

the detail kit gives you the hand rails and you can body mount the couplers you need a #80 drill to drill out the holes for mounting the hand rails I've used the easy peasy kits your only issue is battery replacement

I really want some Mainline GTW Pullman both light and heavies.

can you do a tutorial on how to install the walthers lighting kit in these? im having trouble with it

They are nice looking. I really don't like the coupler on the trucks. I bought the CN ones on sale for $40, regular price $70 which came with all the detail on them. The trucks have the lighting pick ups but no lights. I can add lights for $6 a car. The hobby shop has one by Rapido which I put on hold until I get back from vac. The Rapido is $88. I then can compare the two manufactures. One thing that I really like with the ones I have is the diaphragm are about 2mm separation so it make the cars look attached to each other. I wish they did it with the VIA ones. Maybe Walters is giving you a choice on how you want the cars but it would have been nice if they made ones available with everything done. Scott

Scott Downey I agree. but i cant help but feel that if we left it to walthers to sell the complete car with all bells and whistles.... well it would be more then Rapido. From my experience you dont always need to spend a lot to get some good stuff. those blue concore cars I have are the best running ones I have... they are also the cheapest. its not to say that i would not mind upgrading them... but things like under car detail mean nothing to me cuz ya never really see it anyways.. so when i see something I really like and its a larger cost... i dont mind as much. Always good to hear from you Scott. looking forward to your next update. -Kris

Good example of not paying much is the Pepsi loco. Like I said I bought it (Via) used but missing the rails. Its made by Walthers and its one of the best running locos I have, not that I have a huge collection. I like detail on the bottom but don't always need as much detail on every car light the dome car I have from Rapido. I small part came off the underside and I have no idea were it goes because there is so much detail. It also runs really low and its making it difficult to run on my layout. I have inclines and all the other cars run fine but the Rapido. It driving me crazy. I didn't have the car so I finished every thing based on the other cars. It maybe easier going forward since its the problem car and I can work on the track to make sure it runs. I can't afford the prices of the locos today with my budget. The LRC was the only one I bought new. I try to find good looking ones that are cheap or by trade ins at the hobby shop. That another reason I shop China. There is no reason why they charge so much for basic things in the hobby. Some things will be expensive that is the way it goes. Not every thing is made inexpensive. I just like to get the best bang for the buck, not pay unreasonable prices. Scott

Oh I agree. The f40 is one of my fav loco's. Walthers does it well. The just released or are going to the same loco but limited in DCC/sound. They are looking for about $220 for those. Not bad seeing as how most DCC/sound are in the $300 range. I'm the same way with the cars with underbody detail. If it hangs too low then it scrapes on the track. Not a fan. Sometimes less is more. At first I blamed the cars but after making adjustments to my layout they just worked better. Sometimes it's all it takes.

It looks like it’s just scaled-up N-scale tooling. Pretty much a few molded pieces (nothing separately-applied). These cars are going for $25-$30 now, which is a reasonable price for this. When you see something like this, you really start to see why Walthers Proto, Athearn Genesis, MTH, Broadway Limited, and Rapido charge what they do for their cars.

Nice review to be honest yes they are too light plan on adding some weight and doing some interior details , there is a bad spot on my clubs layout where they uncouple and derail , they have enough detail for me I paid $39.99 + 10% off at a local HOBBY SHOP . I have 4 coaches , Budd Dinner , Budd Large window coach , Budd small window coach ,Budd Baggage Lounge .

Thanks David. If they ran as nice as they look then it would be a better product for sure. for the price I cant complain. a few upgrades and im sure they would be fine. (couplers, lights, weights, grab irons)

Thanks for the review of these. Do the individual cars have car numbers? For example, can one get 4 different Amtrak coach cars, each with a different car number, or are there no car numbers?
@GoViaorgohome3 жыл бұрын
There is a decal sheet that comes with each car. There are names and numbers you can apply.

Mike D What fuckin’ galaxy are you from?....
@LongIslandCityLayout3 жыл бұрын
@@TheRealGalaxyExpress999 I have a set of 4 proto cars and 4 mainline cars from Walthers. The more subdued tone of the finish on the mainline cars looks more like cars that I've seen in service that have been out in the weather. The Walthers proto cars look like stainless finish just came out of the factory.
@paulhunter23232 жыл бұрын
These are nice cars by Walthers, but not 100% accurate for all for VIA, the Mainline diner is incorrect as VIA diners do not have vestibule doors. The Walthers Proto series diner is correct. The decal sheet is for all Walther cars, cross reference your box to the number on the decal sheet. You only need to use the coach numbers for VIA.

Otter Valley Railroad has a good store with great prices right in Ontario.
@GoViaorgohome9 жыл бұрын
It's true. I'm yet to order from them. I try to avoid shipping costs. When I'm in the GTA I go to credit valley. But they seem to be real pricey sometimes.
@Trainsbigandsmall9 жыл бұрын
Go/Via/orgohome Well make Credit Valley price match Otter Valley's prices, they will do it. Credit Valley is a rip off.

@GoViaorgohome8 жыл бұрын
+merc340sr I agree. I hope that is something they are able to change in the future. They just anounced a few more cars- Small window coach, mail car and observation. They are also going to release all 7 cars in CN black and silver as well. I look forward to getting a full set of those as well. -Kris
