Take a TS-style pedal, add VOICE option for clarity and full-frequency restoration; add FAT toggle for exactly that - fat; squeeze the lot into a mini-size case and build it in the USA. Ladies and gents, I present "Moxie", the latest tone tool you'll no doubt be needing from the great desk of Brian Wampler. Moxie does everything you would expect and want a Tube Screamer-style pedal to do and then some. And all with a tiny footprint. Ace.
Today's tools:
Guitar: 2011 Fender Eric Johnson Signature Stratocaster. Stock. (Those pickups sound amazing but, man, they are noisy little buggers!)
Amp: Axe-FX III MKII running Cygnus FW 20.04 b1. '65 Princeton and 50W Plexi models
Cables: BOSS
Strings: Ernie Ball Slinky or Paradigm
Power Supply: Eventide PowerMax by Cioks
Mic: Sennheiser EWD (en-us.sennheiser.com/ew-d) with DPA 4166-OC-F-F00-ME Headset Mic (www.dpamicrophones.com)
Camera: GoPro HERO10 Black and Canon D60
Soundcard: PreSonus Quantum & Fractal Audio Systems Axe-FX III MKII (guitar, mixing and bouncing).
Desktop Monitors: PreSonus R80 R-Series Active AMT Studio Monitors (www.presonus.com)
Computer: 2017 Apple iMac Pro, 2.5 GHz 14-Core Intel Xeon W, 64 GB 2666 MHz DDR4, Radeon Pro Vega 64X 16 GB
Software: Logic Pro X, Apple Final Cut Pro X, Compressor.

Got mine yesterday I'm loving I'm riding the volume low gain low and tone at about 12. Running a compressor>moxie>inferno distortion>booster>looper then a delay in my effects loop. It sounds great for metal And what's great is I can turn off my distortion and tweek the moxie and have a number of tube screamer tones at my fingers through a solid state amp

Excellent review, awesome tones & stellar playing Mr Burgs! I bought a Tube Screamer when they came out but found it too harsh sounding & subsequently sold it on. The Moxie seems really versatile.

Cool pedal! I now have eleven drive pedals what’s the obsession with drive pedals so many on the market, after doing a comparison of my drive collection the difference is minimal! My local guitar store has two large cabinets full of drive pedals l guess it’s searching for that ultimate tone?🙂🎸

Awesome demo as per usual mate. Have you looked into the Ulbrick noise reduction system for your hum? It really does work with no tone suck and you can sit right in front of of your computer with zero interference . All retrofit with no modifications to your control cavity.💪🎸

I'm aware of the Ulbrick system and it does look (and not sound!) great. But to be honest all I need to do is wind in some gate on the Axe if it gets too much.

@@BrettKingman Makes sense, I do the same with an ISP decimate usually. Ps.. I was in Cargill’s recently and he had an EJ strat with those 4 seasons pickups in it and… it was epic. I’d assume you know of them? For me, they were pretty much perfect. I’m not sure what your EJ has in it, but it sounds great, especially into the Moxie👍🎸

@@peterliolis5482 You sound like a true fashionable TGP troll. I'll connect the dots.... While you're correct that bass/treble and gain mods have been around, you're missing the point. Brian's mods are different from someone else's so it's totally different sounding. If all mods were the same, there wouldn't be hundreds of different/unique sounding tube screamers - each of those Sounding so different that you would be able to hear the difference anywhere.

@@peterliolis5482 It's not even about Wampler, it's just about all companies having their own version of a tube screamer, their own spin which is why everyone's tube screamer sounds different in an actual mix. If your ears are too undeveloped to hear the difference, that's on you

Wampler proving, just as Origin Effects did with their new Halcyon, that the only thing wrong with a Tube Screamer is the awful EQ. I would happily use the Moxie, and never use the "mid hump" setting, ever.

yeah, I dont like the midhump either, for example I had the Boss Power Stack and at cleanish setting wayy too much hump of them mids... I like even eqd jazzy/bluesy tones with my strat Yamaha Pacificas ( pickups non-staggered!) hand-picked strings: 9-11,5-15-22-30-42 for evenish tension, and as it happens my middle strings D and G are already a bit closer to fretbooard, so a middle-emphasizing pedal is stupid!( its kinda funny, the strings are really quite balanced, and sometimes I get a bit excited and would like to bend some string a bit moore but then realize man you asked for balanced strings.....ha ha ( gues its a reminder of my rock-times...) If you bang your guitar in a rock band its different.... For noe I got my base tone covered: Mad Prof Simble > Fender Engager Boost >Boss OD-3 > Dolamo D-8 (Wonerful bass control!) > Rowin Tube Drive( more like Boss Blues Driver than a Tube Screamer and25€s!) >DOD Looking Glass( just another finecooler of tone with Fet-transisters that I dig!) I have the Boss OD-3 just neutral, its a FET pedal and it brings some sturdiness/sustain to the base sound, wthout it I hear theres sumthin missing... ((( one CAN go to extremes with scooped tones of course, I had the Mad Prof Royal Blue OD, and even with bass n treb controls I quite didnt know what do to with it, one time I realixed I was just using it the same way as I do the Boss OD-3 now...( I sold 2 of them, its tempting to get a DemonFX clone for 65€s,,,))) to finnish my article: I have a Saphue Ultimate Drive arriving and a DemonFX Precision Drive likewise for a lead tone..., the Prec D has also a gate, and other controls to control my Rowin Tube which has lots ofgain, the Saphue is also dark so the Prec D to control it!??? Ive noticed that writing helps clearing ideas..., so Im resisting the urge of buying the Royal Blue clone, because all in all it woul just be a spare for the Boss OD-3, which Ive got 2 of... ( and still about this Moxie: why would I buy a Tube Screamer chipped pedal that can be modded to more something else, when I already have something elses..., and thou I was tempted by the Fet-factor, I recall from the DOD Looking Glass the FETness doesnt mean you got a higain lead pedal on your hands, its (only) TONE were after...! Hi n Bye, Kimmo😎😎
@kimmolingonheimo
@kimmolingonheimo Жыл бұрын
and Biyang X-drive has replacable chips ( let me guess: tubescreamer this ts that.....9, and Ive had the TC El MojoMojo ( a ts type as well, its very noticeable that while you can add the bass the his keep their thinness...simply too much bass and Fender muffled 57 tube amp tone... and just checked out the MXR Badass modified OD, tube screamer...altough with moore bass: well Ive noticed that adding bass to a tube screamer circuit doesn enhance the his, so I ve just collected pedals by trial n error and found the SIMBLE! as my base of bases, and after that the BOSS-OD3 for just being there, dont ask me why..., after that ( Im more for singlecoil strat neck pup blue n jazz..) the mighty Dolamo D-8( One can use it for strattiness or jazziness!), and the mighty Rowin Tube Drive for bluueeesy leads!!! the answer is much like Dumble-style pedals, but recently theres an overflow of them, and Ive found out that for example the Dumble Overdrive! ( and so many of them!) isnt probably a hi gainAmp drive, my Simble just has a good warm basic tone with my strat to Solis State amps, I remember one guy commenting: Id rateher buy a real FUZZ, well I dont dig fuzzes, he was probly using a warm tube amp......
