Yeah it’s a bit taller inside because there isn’t the curve and it sits on top of the frame. You gain a couple inches.

After looking at this one im starting to really dig the renegade. Id go for the AT version for sure. All the space I need in the galley and cabin. Easy to deal with, much better then a tent! The 120v plug when hooked to shore power is a plus! I noticed the amber porch lights very nice! Another add on I would do is the box on the tongue for a little backup storage. Great camper! I'm keeping this one at the top of the list 4sure.

I purchased a bolt together for mine here in Australia, identical to those "Harbor Freight" models sold in the States. Like you said I brazed (not weld as the metal is pretty thin. (I used to be a bump and paint guy). The problem I found was the metal those Chinese companies used was probably bare stock that had been sitting outside, even though it may look OK, there can be pit rust on it. When I built mine I designed it so I could unbolt 8 "Carriage Bolts" that I also had 2" X 6" X 1/4 inch steel support brace. I figured if it got damaged, I could unbolt it from the frame, which I did after 3 years. To my shock I found the the factory paint had bubbled from surface rust. I got the frame sand blasted and I etch primed it and put a finish coats (S)of DuPont "Emron" polyurethane paint. I'm going to build a new one with my wife, only this time I will use alloy 6' by 10' swing arm independent riding gear. Also I'm going for with 1/2 in foam sandwiched composite fiberglass sheets (cut on a C&C machine. This should drop the weight down, plus the aluminium doesn't rush, but again the removable body worked before, so I'm sticking with it... I love your videos and thanks for sharing. I solved the too bright light issues by using a remote control dimmer switch, plus red lights at night to cut down on those Australian night bugs!

That’s pretty smart! I’ve been tossing around the idea of a removable shell on the trailer. Almost like a truck bed camper. But it will be a while before I can get to it.

I have a 40’ flatbed PJ Trailer. What are the odds of getting one with a shower/toilet, bunks, heat/mini split, fridge(propane/electric), no outside compartments, solar vent fan, generator spot, wired for TV, led’s, etc. I would not need the trailer, just the drop, I’d pick it up and have it placed on my Gooseneck. It’d be pretty nice. I’d probably install front/rear cameras. I run hotshots. I spend $10k in hotels a year. If it’s under 1000lbs it’d be worth it.
@WanderTears
@WanderTears Жыл бұрын
Pretty sure all the items you want to add would be 1000 lbs alone! I don’t think a teardrop would suit you well. It’s very minimal. That’s what makes them lightweight and simple.
@mungfam

Budget to build this one is about $4-6k. I think it could be done cheaper with alternative solutions to siding and trailer frame, etc.

Just don’t like the idea of a rear kitchen, seams to be waisted space. Also if raining you have to go out and open it in the rain. Not sure what might to a better solution?
@WanderTears
@WanderTears Жыл бұрын
On the contrary, I believe it is space perfectly utilized. What else would you put back there? Maybe extra storage, or more room inside?

@@WanderTears The rear galley is excellent. When i camp it always storms, I use tarps to sit under in bad weather. With the rear hatch open i could tarp off the back in a flash and be able to cook and relax easy and still close the galley with tarp still up in the rain. Storms and rain follow me to each campsite. But this is so much better then a tent. Won't wake up in a tent with the yellow brick road in view when I open the flap. And no more blowup mattresses!
