War Front Turning Point currently looks to be abandonware. THE LIST - docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1_K3ziSxT9zcUUGCddS4sF1uNJTWHSbOwB1CQX2Rx4Uo When the box asked, "What if World War Two happened THIS way?", read it in the voice of your friend's older stoner brother in high school instead of a voice of authority.

The point is that the devs explicitly did not want the player to go up against Hitler, while at the same time giving an alibi for Nazis teaming up with allies in the form of the "German resistance" to the "nameless chancellor" who is somehow worse than Hitler. Who knew that poor Wehrmacht was so conflicted about serving the Nazis? Good thing that the "enemy on the eastern front was clear". I guess it is OK to burn down the Byelorussian and Ukrainian countryside. BABES!

I feel like it's more likely that with Hitler being assassinated, their army was free to not take the all-or-nothing, badly favored risk of trying to invade Russia with resources they didn't have while they were still fighting on the Western front. They wouldn't be angered by the assassination; the Nazis were already mad at Hitler for going after Stalingrad, that's why there were so many assassination attempts from within his own military elite.

Ah, of course it's the damn Hungarians again....This game deeply reminded me of Codename Panzers, another Hungarian-made WW2 RTS from the 2000s that's eerily similar to this one both graphically and in some gameplay aspects (Like the repair trucks flinging steel plates at the tanks to repair them, the animations are downright identical.) Hoping Mandalore will cover those games together with their earlier product, S.W.I.N.E, which got a little more popular in the grand scheme of things.

@@chrisjfhelep5095 Hellsing OVA is one of those things I wouldn't describe as "tryhard deep" myself lol Like, the main character is this constantly grinning vampire with big freakin guns and then there's a police woman with a giant cannon and a Catholic with spikes screaming "AMEN!" at the top of his lungs, then the main character gets transformed into a little girl and beats another kid up but not before there's an all-out war between the Vatican and Nazi vampires in London. And, of course, who could forget about catboy Schrodinger and his constant deaths. It's extremely silly and quite self-aware, despite some emotional moments particularly at the end. Tryhard cool, though? Oh yeah, it tries really goddamn hard to be cool I find it charming myself but it's definitely tacky, pretty distasteful and heavily subjective

@@twat3789 So, there was an animation short movie called the Animatrix, showing how humanity fell to robots in warfare over time. From memory, the scene I'm referencing specifically was near the end, when the robots discovered how easily it was to kill humans physically without the use of firearms or conventional weaponry. What happened was there was a lone soldier in power armor attempting to fight for his life. The machine that found him grabbed the armor by its arms and legs and kept it from escaping using tentacle-like appendages. It then ripped open the cockpit where the soldier was struggling, begging for mercy, and wrapped a tendril around him, quite literally tearing him out of the suit as he screamed before finally being killed, tearing his arms and legs off which were still attached to the suit. I dunno who the VA was but to this day It's stuck with me, horrifying.

I definitely had the "best buy" experience you described too as a kid. Germany has a highly monopolized electronic market that is controlled mainly by three chains (two of which are actually the same company...) and every one of these big stores had these big pyramids where there were cheap, old games ranging between 5 and 15 Euros. It's how i got games like Empire at War and The Battle for Middle Earth, but also an immense amount of silly, licensed shovelware. It wasn't hard to convince my parents when we were out to shop for some stuff my dad needed (or were just browsing stuff... my parents had a nasty divorce and my dad liked to bribe us) to get one of those if me and my brother found a game we liked. Also the callback to Mystery of the Droods made me reel with laughter. Well played, sir.

Memory of that kind of games is why I will probably forever have a soft spot in my heart for CD Projekt and why their cameo in Phantom Liberty moved me more than it should. I still remember the blue-and-red box, with original artwork in a small window on the cover, whole rows of 'em in this or that supermarket and the stress of choosing which will be the 'only one' you were allowed. That's also how I got slapped in the face with Kingdom Under Fire.

I kind of missed out on those games because I rarely got a chance to go through the video game aisle at a supermarket when I was younger (I'd usually be left at the Lego or Barbie aisles instead), and when I moved to a bigger city in middle school I already had access to one of then-renowned local gaming magazines and internet so I could check other people's opinions... but at the same time that very same magazine came with a DVD full of games. Sometimes it was old classics, sometimes a big budget game that already made rounds through all the discounted retail editions, and sometimes it was this exact kind of Mandalore/Warlockracy/Ross bait. A game nobody has heard of, often made by a smaller studio in Europe, sometimes only playable in English. They had stuff like Darkstar One, Advent Rising, Loki, Sacred, Mage Knight Apocalypse... I should probably go through my collection and see what can I dig up. Another good source of these trash/treasure coinflips is small stores with second-hand PS2/early X360 and PS3 games. I have a habit of going there with my partner whenever I visit her and I seem to find the darndest stuff out there.

Seeing Mandalore cover this ancient gem of a fossil fills me with hope that he'll someday review Codename Panzers Phase 1 and 2. They were such awesome old-school RTS with quite a few unique gameplay mechanics like tanks having actual armor layouts, being able to crew everything from tractors to civilian cars (and capturing enemy vehicles by roasting them with flamethrowers until the crews would run out covered in fire.) They were made by a small Hungarian studio that sadly went bankrupt in the 2000s, and I'm pretty sure they were ported to Steam around 2018 by a different studio which acquired the rights. Surprisingly bugless and working flawlessly on modern systems as well, which is quite strange, I only ever recall it crashing once in all the times I've had the pleasure of repeatedly beating it over my entire life.

@@takujaba6746 Oof, that game was so bad in every way. The cutscenes of just attractive woman talking were so terrible too, there was like only one fun soviet scene with the moon thing. Like instead of silly over the top hilarious or badass characters it was just attractive woman 101 x.x It was alot of fun in coop at least. The TPS mechanic reminds me alot of Men of War since that had it too and since then I always wishes for a game that lets me play RTS but also jump into FPS/TPS any time :D Kinda exists now with the more modern Men of War games but those still dont have basebuilding sadly x.x

Major kudos for the Nieve reference. Fun little call back to Anonymous Agony and more so Nieve and that song, but particularly the only viewers who’d catch that are those of us who actually looked it up after watching the AA vid. Bravo.

IIRC the Launch Trailer explained what happened: Hitler died before assuming power and WW2 would happen like 10y later... time enough to develop Mechas and Mini Nukes xD

It is quite fun that literally a day before the review came out, I just finished replaying this game in a sudden surge of nostalgia. What a timing.

Oh man, I remember loving this game back in the day. Didnt play the hell out of it, but the steampunk concept of a WW2 dragging on and Tiger tanks being merely mid-tier with mechs and giant zeppelins and sci-fi shielding made it so, so memorable. And I remember loving the story concept too, even if the story itself was fairly simple. Thanks for making a video on it! Its such a niche game, but definitely would worth picking up I say.

Having a Alternate History WW2 game's antagonist be a nameless unseen Chancellor who doesn't even get "Hes way worse than that Hitler guy ever was" is more of a stretch than saying there were Mechs at Stalingrad

As a Hungarian, this game was my childhood, I love every second of it and I hated how this game was nowhere to be found on the internet. Glad to see it finally getting some coverage by a larger youtuber! ❤🎉 To this day I have the physical version of the game :D!
