Nothing compares to the 1965 Russian version of War and Peace directed by Sergei Bondarchuk (who also plays the role of Pierre Bezukhov). In my humble opinion, since Russian people feel emotions on a much different level ,a movie of this scale can only be made and acted by Russian people who feel this magnificent novel in their blood .

You'e right, Bondarchuk's film is a cinematic masterpiece. It took a few years to complete, and the battle scenes are unbelievable. Ludmila Savelyeva and Vyacheslav Tikhonov are superb. Cheers
