I've never seen any aircraft drop weaponry at any airshow, how fantastic! I know these weren't real bombs, but it give a realistic idea of what it was like...

An excellent video of a world-class show. I can’t make it to Wanaka, but, last year, I went to Oamaka - my first air show since I was a teenager. I won’t tell you how long ago I was a teenager, but - hint - the RNZAF had Vampires... Between them, Wanaka and Omaka keep everyone’s whistle wet and I’m going back to Oamaka next year.

Awesome video my friend. Being a yank, I have not heard of some of those aircraft. gotta love those Merlin's, and the unique sounding T-6 Texan propellers.

Ha I was there but i was not in the audience. I was on the airfield helping with the explosions. As I was a volunteer so got a good name for myself.as very lucky as I came from underwood out of invercargil. So had a awesome time. Had my camera with me so........

Great video. During the PBY display, what were the two airplanes in the background to the right? They look like C-47s. Were they part of the show?

Thanks! Yes they were two DC-3s, one of them was Air Chathams. I had to be really picky about what to record to save the phone battery, so I missed a few planes unfortunately.

I see you have missed the fireballs I guess it's all aboutthe warplanes but its still good warplane footage and bits of the explosions

Just a small point. When describing decorations, it is the most senior first, thus it should be DSO, DFC & bar, not DFC & bar first.

Hi. I flew one of the STOL aircraft during the show and we have found no good video of the STOL aircraft display (except for your short clip here). Would you possibly be able to post a KZfaq clip of just the STOL display please??. The footage you have is very good and includes the commentary from a very good vantage point. Well done and thanks!

+STOL guy Thanks! I'll see what I can put together, but it's pretty much just the two clips here plus a slow mo one that I didn't include. Have you contacted the WOW guys too see if they have anything recorded? Awesome display btw!

+plants Thanks! The list of aircraft can be found here: www.warbirdsoverwanaka.com/aircraft_146.html However for the RNZAF section the NH-90 was grounded due to running out of flying hours, also the Agusta A109 isn't listed on the website.

+plants Yeah all the parked aircraft were cordoned off unfortunately. Some people got close up but I'm not sure if they had special passes or just asked nicely!

Every two years on Easter. There's also one a bit further north near Blenheim that's on in the alternate years.

Good luck! You kinda need to plan ahead since most of the accommodation in Queenstown and Wanaka will all be eaten up. We had to stay in Arrowtown last time.

Ive been interested in building an avenger. Building the whole fuselage would be fun, the gunner, the torpedo/bomb bay, cockpit etc. But im put off by those ugly, square wings.

I'll say, summer has definitely arrived here. The ground is so dry, I can fit my fingers between the kerb and the ground, it is literally shrinking in the heat
