Feisty! That's the word for these small insectivorous birds: WARBLERS, GNATCATCHERS, and KINGLETS. See American Redstarts, Blue-gray Gnatchers, and Ruby-crowned Kinlgets close up, in action. I'm right with you on that. Before I made this movie, I did a two part series on the Importance of Putting in Native Plants, and the point of both videos was that bugs are the basis of all ecosystems; and by putting in sterile lawns full of non natives and spraying for the bugs that survive that onslaught on their habitat, we risk the ecosystems around us.

Great video! As much As I enjoy watching warblers, some of them are pains in the neck-Literally. This fall, after watching a Black-throated green for almost 10 minutes, I felt like my neck was going to fall off, from looking up for so long. Hahah.
@JoAlwoodBIRDSANDTHENSOME
@JoAlwoodBIRDSANDTHENSOME 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, they even call it warbler neck, and it bothers me so much that I do little warbler watching. So I'm glad I get to see them sometimes at our artificial streams. But a good look at a Black-throated Green would come pretty close to making up for the sore neck.

Back in the winter, the warblers I saw were the Yellow-Rumped Warblers. They were a winter bird in my area, now that its springtime they would have migrated or something, as i no longer see them. I have seen Pine Warblers once or twice.

How I got much of this footage was to place a camera or cameras on places where the birds were likely to show up and then let them run. I call it video surveillance. Then I scrubbed through the footage and found the shots that were worth keeping. Being a bird videographer requires learning to be sneaky. I also use hunting blinds.

@@RobJorg Point well taken, Rob. And certainly some films I'm not all that fond of have done well. In fact, one of my oldest films is about Black-crowned Night Herons. I wince every time I listen to it, but it gets lots of views. Even so, I can be objective about my writing. When it's not up to standard, I know it, can't help knowing, just as I can tell you which ones are the best writing: Praying Mantis catching prey, for example.

Hi again! Thanks largely to your video about these birds, yesterday and today I finally saw the yellow-crowned kinglet and was sure because I saw the stripe on its head. I also have the ruby-crowned kinglet, but until today was not sure I had both. They really do flit around, so was hard to see some of their markings. Thanks so much again. Oh yes thanks. I am hoping to take some stills and short vid clips to see if a local birder an help me figure some of them out. Feisty is a great descriptive for one of the smaller birds that keeps trying to chase away any of the others. It’s pesky behavior is reminding me of how my mockingbirds will get claiming the feeders in the spring and summer. It keeps chasing any bird smaller than a hairy or red bellied woodpecker away from the feeders. I have never seen a small bird be so determined to claim the feeders all for itself! Lol I am wondering if the cold air masses have “moved” some here for now. I finally did see the red crown on one that must be a kinglet yesterday. Thanks for explaining that too.
