You could say I'm getting quite excited about Warhammer: The Old World, so I've decided to crack on and start a small Bretonnia Army in order to hit the ground running (galloping).

Brilliant to see Warhammer Fantasy coming back! As a relatively new gamer, I got into Warhammer long after WFB had ended. I’ve always wanted to create a Bretonnian army, but saw no point as hardly anyone played Fantasy Battles. But now is the perfect opportunity! 😀

Brettonians are really fun to play, Idk if they're going to get the same rules about cavalry charges and how many peasants regiments you can deploy, or even if you still get to pray, but definitely is one of the most crazy armies to play, beside orcs and goblins

This is 100% a lie and a misleading statement. Warhammer Fantasy is NOT coming back. This is a complete fabrication. They're releasing limited models for a few select armies and releasing dumbed down rules for a new system. Its NOT called "Warhammer Fantasy" its called "The Olde World" It may as well be called "Dead on Arrival." literally NONE of my fantasy loving compatriots have the slightest interest in the game. We didnt want Age of Shitmar 3.5. We *wanted* Warhammer Fantasy 9th Edition. Continuing the age old tradition of GW not giving a rat's ass what their own customers actually ASK for. At BEST people will buy the models and continue playing the popular alternative to WFB. (You can google them yourself.) Kings of War is currently (and will remain) the most popular WFB alternate system. FFS GW only pulled this Olde World crap as a way to save face after Mantic bitch slapped them with an ad campaign that made them look like complete clowns. Over half the armies are getting a 1 page pdf and NO model releases of any kind. You either kept your old models for the last 10+ years or you can get bent scrub. They "decided" all on their own that all the undead are "sleeping". Sleeping. Taking a fucking nap. Yep. Cause thats what zombies do. They take naps. /eyeroll Ogre kingdoms, chaos dwarves, lizardmen etc etc etc.. all just *poof* not there. Sux2bu if you were a fan of one of those armies, or collected one of those armies.. you get nothing but a giant middle finger and a 1 page PDF document... while the rest will get full codexes full of special rules, detachments, upgrades etc etc.

I've been a huge Bretonnia fan since the glory days of 5th edition, with the lance formation (which is returning!), chivalry, and the Bretonnian code of honour. I wasn't keen on the grimdark direction 6th edition took them, and increasingly dismayed when 7th and 8th editions came and went with nothing for the noble servants of the lady. It was looking as if they'd been Squatted long before the End Times. Imagine how thrilled I was to discover they're the first to return with The Old World. For the Lady!

I really like your paint scheme here! I was starting an Ogre army last year and I'm glad that I didn't base anything. I would rather wait for Old World and put them on square bases. I magnetized the arms of the ogres, and I'm loving the customization opportunities. They're big enough that I can use larger, stronger magnets that are a lot less fiddly than the ones you need for man-sized arms.
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms Жыл бұрын
Thank you. I hope that base size document that they’ve announced isn’t too far off, there’s lots of people waiting to crack on. Though I can see Ogres have more of a potential to stay on their previous 40s than some others (I think that’s what they were on from memory). I’ve painted a few 30k commissions with fully magnetised units, they had the potential to be a bit ‘loose’ and fall apart, so I can imagine that the stronger magnets are helpful like you said.

That makes a lot of sense. Great video! WOuld love to see that painting tutotial for the knight! Also, what would you consider a fair prize for the "old" Bretonnian starter set sprues? In my old boxes with stowed away WH stuff, I discovered some complete sprues for 12 knight and 16 bowmen. Now I am thinking of eiher keeping them as a starting point for a (small) Bretonnia army, or sell them, but I got now idea what price would be fair. As you mentioned in the video, Ebay prices are not really giving a realistic range.

Thank you 😊 A Knight of the Realm tutorial is my next planned TOW video, very likely next week at some point. In terms of fair price I really don’t know ,5)3 prices seem to range wildly, I genuinely don’t know what’s ‘fair’ and what’s ‘market value’. You could look at similar numbers of models for current GW retail prices (obviously similar troop types), but it is hard to work out. I’m going to guess that when they bring them back, a box of 16 bowmen will be approx £28-£32 (10 Empire Handgunners are £20), and 6 knights £25-£30 (6 Empire Outriders are £22.50). I keep looking for more reasonably priced Knights of the Realm, but not quite found anything I’m happy with yet.

Ah good stuff. Thank you for sharing your spearheading or pathfinding effords ... 😁👍 30 x 60 mm seems to be right, though they look really large at the first glance. And a lance formation of brettonian knights just look so right. I hope they will also re-introduce the Brigants of Bergerac also with a possible wedge formation. I have ever wondered why the standard base size for Warhammer wasn't simply 1x1 inch and 1x2 inches for cav, because at least in my logic it would make more sense, and I also assumed that this could be a thing for TOW, at least thats what I would have done
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms Жыл бұрын
I was looking at the picture of the 32 bowmen in 4 ranks, I’ve got a suspicion that there will be a new rule to replace the wedge and keep the barricades. Maybe they can fire in 4 ranks indirectly, Agincourt style, but maybe it’s something like -2 to hit etc. I’ve got a feeling those set ups in the new pictures are more than just for show. Yeah it was always odd to have a game in inches, but bases in mm, but that’s carried on into almost all wargames.

Despite some of the doomsaying you see in certain corners of the interwebs, I remain massively excited about TOW. I have been working on a variety of WHF armies recently, and "that base question" has bothered me quite a bit to be honest. - Dwarfs ... I could do almost all of the range on the new 25mm bases right now, and having done a few testers I like them this way A LOT. Just... more interested in other armies at this moment, so not a lot got done. - O&G ... lots of interest in them, and actively painting infantry - on their old bases. Similar to Dwarfs I did some tests, and do NOT like the look of Nightgoblins on 25mm bases - just "too much air". They rank up easily as they are, and have a proper horde look that way, not going to change this. Some common Orcs are in the mix as well, but mostly for "yeah I could add them later on with a multibase to spread them out correctly". I will not take O&G to anything official, so none of this really matters, I just think most things other than Nightgoblins benefit from the larger bases, and we don't know the "standard" for current 25mm and cavalry bases yet. I wish I could do more, but it is only Nightgoblins for now. - Dark Elves, Wood Elves, Tomb Kings ... doing a small unit of each on 25mm, all built and primed so far. All of them look better on the bigger bases to me. No clue yet as to which of these armies will get priority, and when. - Vampire Counts ... I have a sizable army already, and will not rebase them. The new AoS sculpts, while amazing, really do not fit on 20mm bases at all, so I will keep the army with older models and on their old bases. No harm done. - Beastmen and Warriors of Chaos ... I have many a model for both, always hesitated to do them as an army for the ranking issue. So I love the bigger base sizes, but have to wait for them to actually be around to get started. Mildly frustrating! So yeah, not all of it completely rational, but it does not have to be, right? A hobby is about emotions and what I really WANT to do, and as things stand I am kept busy anyway. TOW just can not come soon enough! :D

I’m with you there completely, sounds like some solid and sensible plans/approach. I’ve noticed with the Goblins, the small 4th Ed era ones look very small on 25s, but the later larger sculpts look much better, especially when bases are finished with extra details like rocks and tufts.

I am hoping some one will design a two part wrap around 3D print base that can just be glued onto the original bases to convert them to the new rules when it is known what they are. My Bretonian army is too big for mass messing around with bases I hope the only changes to the Bretonians is the base sizes so I can still use all my minis even my rule breaking male spell caster that looks a bit like Merlin chosen for that very look. I do hope the lance formation for the knights is there, and it would be nice if the arrow head formation comes back for the Archers that was a Bretonian only thing when I started. I personally am just not interested in having to do a big rework to play the game or buy a new Army for me toy soldiers is very much a secondary hobby and I want to use what I already have.

I’m sure someone will design a base converter like that, there’s already nice ones where the base sits in (but I’d probably want to fill any gap and make it look like a complete base). I think if I had huge painted armies I’d be looking for solutions like that. I never played them with those old rules, how did the arrow formation work with archers? My guess is that won’t come back, the defences look like they will remain a thing, good to see it back for knights though.
@johnbusby215

The Arrow head formation was a triangle shaped fixed formation peculiar to the Bretonians and all archers could fire. Shame mine could not hit the side of a barn at 50 paces. they did successfully kill them selves once by bringing down a Dwarven gyro-copter right on top of themselves and it promptly exploded killing the whole formation Woop's. At that time all other armies archers where in ranks and only the front rank could fire Also the Bretonians did not have war machines of any kind except for sieges. In fact according to the fluff and the rules of the time the Lady of the Lake would not bless the army if they had war machines, and it was considered very bad form to have them and no Bretonian Knight worth his salt would want to be part of an Army with war machines. I did at one time have a GW medieval cannon and crew we never did get around to doing an un-chivilrous Bretonian battle to find out what the consequences would be.

Ah that sounds good, and it’s got me thinking that the 4 rank formation in the picture may be so thing that borrows those rules, maybe even indirect fire with a minus to BS.
