Lovely paint work there. With so much white it makes it quite tricky doesn't it. I do have an Elisse Duchaard mini so I'll be giving it a go one day when I get onto the second round of Bretonnians

1:50 if white is hard why not prime minature white? for example with citadel white?
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms 9 сағат бұрын
That would give you a flat white colour, and you can’t highlight white. So starting with a darker base and working up, you get subtitle tones that you can build up to white, giving the paint scheme great depth. I talk about this in the video during those first grey layers with the airbrush.

I recently bought the base I Am the Law starter set. Did you remove the oval base tabs on the figures, or did you glue them onto the round bases and cover the oval parts with basing material before prime and paint?
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms 13 сағат бұрын
I’ve left the pudding bases on, you could try and trim them down or file them off, but you risk damaging the miniature. Some people do though, but the majority just use putty or basing texture to level the base out.

Very nice looking minis. Some lovely tartan patterns on there that certainly require a steady hand I was thinking it might be worthwhile for you to do a short video on paint consistency in terms of how you judge it correctly before applying and how that might differ across colours and ranges. When doing this kind of fine detail work you would really be in a bit of trouble to get the consistency wrong as corrections could be a little painful
@MiniatureRealms

Thank you mate. That’s an interesting idea, will have to have a think about how that might become something teachable, the main thing is that it varies in each context, and the lesson is the right viscosity is the right viscosity for the job.

Looks great as a mini vignette and command base. For the dwarf flesh do you need to thin that at all or is it straight from the pot? I've got some sprues for pike and shot from the Warlord summer sale and tester sprues of Epic Hannibal from Wargames Illustrated on the way. If I end up with any Celts I'll try the similar techniques for them and see if my sanity and eyesight hold up.
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms 3 күн бұрын
Thank you. With the Dwarf skin I don’t thin it for miniatures at this scale often, it’s relatively light in pigment compared to other contrast/speed paint type paints.

It's hard to tell, but it looks like those are baggy to the knee, so I suspect they are neither trews or trousers but rather breeches. If they are, then from the knee down to the shoe would be hose, and so should be separate material. Hard to say without being able to scrutinise the figure.
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms 3 күн бұрын
Thank you. You may well be correct there, I took most of my painting references from the studio paint job, but then again I couldn’t see the moustache and beard on the mini, so this maybe another similar case.

I think the issue of "capacity", I believe that's not production capacity but that GW has the physical capacity for additional production lines to be built. As to transparency, that brings is own set of complaints. You're damned if you do and damned if you don't. Finally, to the base topic, yes they do. I cannot believe that GW profits from the 2 "Epic" scale games. I get Underworlds as it's sold in entirely different channels than just traditional local game stores. Here in the States, it's sold in Barnes and Noble (chain bookstores) and Target. Not your traditional avenues of Tabletop war games. I think they could slim down Specialist Games but most, like Blood Bowl sell well and the community for BB is the most active of all GW games.
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms 3 күн бұрын
I think the market is there for all of them to be profitable, that’s why they currently exist (that could change in the future), but the danger is lack of availability could damage some systems. In terms of marketability games like Underworlds are much easier to push to a mass market, to pick up those impulse purchases from non-regular wargamers, so book stores and general stores are good places to have them as well.
