Absolutely love them. Excellent job. Those shield colours are fantastic and very eye catching. When you showed the table top finish I thought yeah that's great for large armies and where I'd probably leave the rank and file for the most part. However upon seeing the white drybrush I'd almost classify that step as required. It really ties it together imo.

Whilst you are at it, do you reckon you could nab some of their Landsknecht Ogres? They look like they would fit beautifully with Empire. For the state colours, I have nothing against Nordland but we have already seen a very lovely blue and yellow scheme from you on the Bretonians. Perhaps Stirland to get some green in the mix? Or Ostermark for a burgany/purple?

Eyecatching colour sceme, the units look good. This will be a great looking army with the ornate Tomb Guard, a Sphinx or two and some annimated constructs. I'm looking forward to being able to buy Tomb Kings again from GW, I can't afford to plunder the tomb treasury for the ransom prices online. I painted my skeletons with an agrax wash over base coat of vallejo bonewhite then soft over brush and layer up lighter tones. Yes its old style but its relaxing and theraputic, doesn't take me too long to finish units.

I have a few theories on why VC aren’t there at launch, they are just theories though. First off, the main reason we have limited factions is mostly down to resources, it’s a Specialist Design Studio game, so they just don’t have the numbers of people and budget the main studio does, it’s just not a main game anymore. We kind of have to accept it this way, or not have it at all. That will mean way more old minis than new, and a far slower churn than 40K/AOS as well. Also, while they know that there are a lot of crossover miniatures and factions with AOS, I expect that maintaining new AOS IP is more important, so the heavy focus is likely to be on factions that don’t have a place on AOS. TK & Brets had pretty much disappeared, they were probably the only two main factions (sorry chaos dwarfs) that didn’t get a place at all in AOS. That gives them a huge opportunity to focus on something that’s been ‘missing’ the longest. If I was a hard core VC player I’d be disappointed that they weren’t being covered with new rules to start (as I would for Liazards or Skaven), but I’d also recognise that they will have lists, but also amazing AOS ranges from which to build armies from, oddly in many cases way better and more modern that the armies that are there at launch for TOW. They’ve mentioned at launch that much of the initial focus will be around the Boarder Princes. Take a look at the names on the map, Harkon is on there, he’s the grand master of the blood dragons. Now knowing GW that doesn’t mean that VC will definitely be covered, but it not only gives VC players a cool theme to work from, but also hints at possible expansions in the future. Finally I think the plan is probably to bring in more of the ‘legacy’ factions later on. That will very much depend on sales of the first round, there’s some safety built into the business model there, it also makes the workload manageable for a small team. There was no way 1-2 writers could produce new army book level of release for all the armies at the end of 8th. I also think they will advance the storyline. In the old Warhammer this would have never happened, they even wiped the lord of Storm of Chaos, the only time it moved on was the end times, and there was an obvious reason for that. I think if it sell well, there will be future editions/campaign expansions, with more faction brought back, especially as we get closer to the chaos invasion, I’d imagine that’s the perfect narrative tool to bring more back. Sorry long answer, but I could hypothesise this for hours.

And the two factions that they are starting with are two very beloved factions that actually ceased to exist at the change to AoS. This is a way to fight back against the creep of printing and get some relevance back on these factions. I’ve been a highland mini patron for a few years, and OPR. I have multiple Tomb kings armies worth of files to date, bretonians, empire, Kislev, dwarves, and ogres. I just need rule books at this point.

What would you suggest as a substitute for the Cryptek Armourshade? Mine is nearly depleted (unfortunately one of those famous if rare knock-over-incidents in my wargaming career :) ) I still have the "classy" shades in their glossy version though if that helps, even if I feel the newer formulations might be shiny enough to get away with.

Great video, I will definitely be used a lot of these techniques as a beginner painter! I’m planning on basing in chaos black with a rattle can and the trying a 45 degree controlled wraithbone rattle can ‘zenithal’ highlight. After using skeletal horde as you have. Do you think this would work over dry brushing - I’m just thinking it would save time and I have the can already. Many thanks for any suggestions!
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms 3 ай бұрын
It’s definitely possible yes, but care will be needed. The cans can have too much power for the subtle effect that’s often needed for zenithal, so you end up having to keep the can too far away, and what happens then is the paint dries in the air before reaching the model, and it can cause a rough surface. Too close and you lose the effect. So it’s possible, but practice first to make sure you don’t mess it up. I think another option could be just to use Wraithbone, then drybrush white before following the rest of the steps. It will look different, but still good.

@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms 5 ай бұрын
No not with this application, it completely changes the look. The pigment on the base is brushed into all the texture, I blow the excess off, you’d be surprised how well it stays. Similar with any in the shields, I blow the excess off, and it stains the surface. As long as you don’t get them wet you’re fine.

@@MiniatureRealms At 22:36, you're applying a reddish bush and a yellower one with lighter tips on top to the bases. I'm referring to those two.

@Tideriongaming Got you. The brownish one is from Warpaint Figures, wasteland or something like that I think (2mm). The other is from Warpainter Scenics, 4mm but can remember the name and it doesn’t say on the box.

Had to laugh about the Tomb King pricing comment. It’s likely that the GW pricing will be much cheaper than current eBay prices so I’ve decided to wait for the box😂

Would you have considered airbrushing the shields?
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms 5 ай бұрын
Umm I airbrushed with the underpainting, so that’s added the transition, the rest is easy enough after. Of course you can, but there’s still a lot of trim on many of them, so the time saved it really minimal if any.

@@MiniatureRealms I am looking forward to the Tomb Kings and Bretonnians coming back back I have zero faith in GW pricing them reasonable and having proper stock. Then I have to wonder how long before they drop this game like they have the tendency to do. Would love to paint Tomb Kings as I was starting that army when they blew up Warhammer Fantasy and I sold what I had. Wish I kept the stuff ah well.

How long it lasts will be all down to how well it sells (hopefully it’s good and the community gives it a fair crack). We have seen what happens when things like Heresy sell welll, they get second editors with more plastic, now I don’t think it will be as popular, but if it can sell like Middle Earth I think it will be safe and continue to see new stuff.

@@MiniatureRealms I have a feeling it will sell good because of the subject matter but we all know what GW does to popular items. I am hoping for reasonable pricing and a measure of safety that the game won't suddenly vanish like it did. Course this is GW and I honestly have zero faith in them. They need to revamp some of the aging Middle Earth miniatures. I have a big collection but I doubt I will add to it anymore unless I buy Theodred foot and mounted for Rohan as he is the only royal family member I don't have foot and mounted models of.

I think TOW will run very similar to MESBG, with replacement of older models being very slow. This just won’t do the kinds of numbers that will give the studio the budget for that sadly, at least at first anyway, we’ve seen what happened with HH.

I’ve made a huge guess here, could be wrong so I wouldn’t worry for now. The only Cav we’ve seen in pictures are Brets (which I’m fairly confident are on 30x60 or something close), these could very well stay on 25x50, I’d be wary.

@@MiniatureRealms even more complicated is my old sorceress on dark Pegasus, the '95/'96 version. Is on a 24x50 cavalry, but as she's a HQ maybe not a cavalry? I've been told it should be a 50x50 square but now that unicorn model has been teased that looks like it's on something like a 50x60? Mind bottling 😆

why did games workshop make dwarf models so small, in their own lore a dwarf stands 4.5 foot tall to 5.2 fet tall, in their WHFRP lore, so why did they make the warhammer fantasy battles dwarfs so small? was itr the cost of making bulky bigger models? im using highland dwarf models thaat are to the height they are said to be in the Lore, not the game and they are much bigger but fit in better
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms 6 ай бұрын
It all depends on the era of miniature really, they’ve changed quite a lot over the years. When I printed Highlands Dwarves I did so at 88%, I felt 100% was way too big for my needs, but again it’s all about the context of the models they’re standing next to.

however in all the WHFRP books it does state they roughly no less tyhan 4 feet, but if you go throu8gh all warhammer dwarfs upto 8th none of them reach 4 feet and are only slighlty taller than than a halfling when they should be 1-2 feet taller, and dwarfs should eyesight should be about at a mans nose @@MiniatureRealms

from warhammer fantasy Roleplay 1st edition : "Physique Dwarfs are short creatures, about five feet in height, but very broadly-built, which makes them ideally suited to underground living, tunnelling and mining. Their skin is the same shade as that of humans and their hair colour varies a great deal, although the Norse Dwarfs tend to be red-haired or blonde."@@MiniatureRealms
