In todays video I visit my friend Matt at THE DRAGON WORKSHOP in London where we discuss his approach to making bespoke foam cosplay armour, made to order, often in the themes of Warhammer 40k, The Lord Of The Rings and The Mandalorian. We take a look at some awesome examples of his work, and try not to get workshop envy.

Lovely work! EVA foam, snap blade/hobby knife, a heat gun, contact cement, sealer, paint… that’s all you need! There are so many amazing artists using these materials to produce striking results.

@@Nat1videos let me know what you'd like to get started on and I would be happy to point you in the right direction of some free patterns and tutorials. Evil Ted, SKS Props, and Punished Props are great starting points. All of them have free patterns available.

@@mcwolfsons2553 ohhh cool! I haven't heard of Evil Ted before I will check him out ! I saw the witch king mask on SKS Props and may give that a go once I get my current batch of terrain projects out of the way... You don't know of a pattern for Saurons Helmet by any chance?

@@Nat1videos The Woodland Elf has a video and free template. You can upgrade the design and materials a bit. If you’re going to be using a hobby knife or snap blades I suggest investing in a small knife sharpener because foam will dull a knife on a single cut… dull knives mean janky cuts … janky cuts mean bad seams. Dremel tool with rounded stone bits will help you sculpt the foam like a pro. I suggest using floor mats from your local hardware store as you start off before buying the good stuff… Poly Props seems to be the leader in your neck of the woods.

Seriously cool. I had no idea about Worbla as a crafting material - that could definitely open up possibilities, even beyond cosplay. Imagine being able to add some rigidity but with thinness and strength to a build like Dol Guldur ruins or as add-ons to minis or larger figures if you need something more tensile than say Sculptamold. Love seeing what others are making - thanks for sharing!

Yeah Mark, I totally agree! Worbla is a material I have been wanting to give a try for quite some time. I would be starting from scratch with that material, so it would be a bit of a learning curve I am, sure. Too many things I want to try out lol

Awesome video mate loved this. Also that tool was clearly a sped up chicken rotisserie unit. Not sure if you sped it up in post production or if there was some other wizardry at work but it is definitely a chicken rotisserie. DEFINITELY.
