Designing For is a series which looks at a level in gaming, and analyzes a theme central to that level's design. In this episode, we look at the Ultra setting of WarioWare Gold's new Split Screen mode -- one of the best ways to play the game, thanks to its understanding of the chaotic heart of the franchise.

i love warioware to death. this is the only one i havent played bc my 3ds broke, and now im hearing its the best dang :c great video as always! :D

7:34 Now, to be fair, the resolution and size of the DS screen meant it could be a lot harder to fit a lot of the HUD elements you would normally find on a TV screen. Having a second screen that could be accessible through a touch screen without interfering too much with the button layout is actually really handy and a feature I will miss moving on from the DS and 3DS line of systems. Although Warioware Gold seems like a great way to send off the DS lines of games. It traces back Nintendo's 2000s handheld legacy up to its release and makes the most of the entire system. I need to pick it up, I've been meaning to but can never seem to find it physically.

This was one of my favorite modes in Gold, so I'm glad it's getting its dues. And especially glad you mentioned the soundtrack for this mode.

I feel that part of the Warioware series's charm is that the only three things you can trust will be in the game (aside from what's marketed) are a big and usually console/device related gimmick, Wario, and microgames. Split Screen does that beautifully, using both Gold's multiple control style gimmick and it's own use of the 3DS's multiple screens to create the epitome of Warioware.

Also, the screen combined as one screen (leaving a screen gap)isn't always a good idea, as some members of the 3DS family cannot bear the screen gap ([Cough]2DS[Cough]).
